Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group, announced today at its Computing Conference in Shanghai that it plans to establish two new data centers in Mumbai, India and Jakarta, Indonesia, and currently anticipates opening the two new IDCs during the current fiscal year, ending on March 31, 2018.

Together with the recently announced data center in Malaysia, Alibaba Cloud will significantly increase its computing resources in Asia, allowing greater support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) throughout the region with powerful, scalable, cost-effective and secure cloud capabilities.

For its over 2.6 million paid subscribers, Ancestry analyzes and compares billions of historical records, tens of millions of family trees, and millions of existing customer DNA profiles to deliver data-driven insights that help customers develop a new sense of self. The company requires a highly scalable and secure IT infrastructure on which to store and analyze large volumes of sensitive information. Ancestry’s goal is to empower people to take their own journey of self-discovery, providing actionable insights that have meaningful impact. Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. Chief Executive Officer Meg Whitman, who has been racking up acquisitions to stay competitive in the age of cloud computing, said the company’s shopping spree may not be over. "I think you will see acquisitions become a bigger part of our strategy," Whitman said in an interview Tuesday in Las Vegas at the company’s Discover conference. The company, based in Palo Alto, California, has already unveiled purchases so far this year worth more than $1.5 billion.

Whitman is hunting for tools that would help boost demand for the company’s main server and storage products, seeking to push back against direct competitors such as Dell Technologies, as well as cloud-computing providers such as Amazon.com Inc. She’s spent the past few years slimming down HPE, including splitting off the personal-computer and printer business and shedding some services and software units in multibillion-dollar deals.
