Cloud News, Resources and Information
Unbelievably, the concept of M2M (machine to machine) has existed for more than a decade. However, most organizations never bothered to check out and unleash the technology’s power.
M2M has the power to provide insightful takes on data. The key issue was how the technology would have meshed with prevailing infrastructure. We’ve only just recently unlocked the potential thanks to the fact that our current technology has been able to scale up to handle the bulk of the data. Cloud computing has been right at the heart of the equation.
Univa, a leading innovator in on-premise and hybrid cloud workload management solutions for enterprise HPC customers, today announced that Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. selected Univa’s solution, mainly Navops Launch, to extend its on-premise EDA cluster to the cloud, providing Mellanox with cost-effective, on-demand capacity.
Mellanox is a leading supplier of end-to-end Ethernet and InfiniBand intelligent interconnect solutions for servers, storage and hyper-converged infrastructure. Given that Fortune 500 data centers and half of the world’s top 500 fastest supercomputers employ Mellanox products in their operations, the company understands the value of smart innovation and operational efficiency. Thus, Mellanox was seeking a solution from a trusted partner that would bridge their current cluster management software to a future with a robust scheduler, while leveraging hybrid cloud.
PagerDuty, a global leader in digital operations management, announced integration of PagerDuty’s real-time operations management platform with Microsoft Azure and Visual Studio Team Services, Azure’s integrated suite of DevOps services. These integrations enable Microsoft’s enterprise customers to manage incidents in real time, helping minimize business disruption, migrate confidently to the cloud and bridge the gap between development and operations teams. Today, hundreds of companies and their DevOps teams are already using PagerDuty with Azure to automatically monitor their cloud services’ health and quickly respond to incidents.
"PagerDuty gives Microsoft customers a best-in-class platform to automatically manage incidents and orchestrate action," said Jukka Alanen, senior vice president of business development and corporate strategy at PagerDuty. "In today’s environment, the price businesses pay for failing to deliver a great customer experience is extremely costly, resulting in lost revenue, customer churn and compromised brand value. With PagerDuty, Azure and Visual Studio Team Services customers can quickly address critical issues that arise throughout the software delivery lifecycle while improving productivity of their DevOps teams."
Bitnami announced the addition of Azure support to Bitnami Stacksmith, an enterprise tool that automates the migration of traditional applications to cloud platforms.
Launched in February of 2018, Bitnami Stacksmith is an enterprise tool that simplifies the migration of traditional enterprise applications from the datacenter to the cloud. Stacksmith takes a running application in the datacenter, repackages and optimizes it for cloud deployment, and delivers everything needed to successfully deploy it to a container or cloud platform. Stacksmith then continuously monitors the replatformed application for updates and patches, providing an easy way for companies to keep applications up-to- date and secure.
Writing
The transition from print to digital of the written word might seem un unchanged one, appearing as it does on screens in a similar fashion to how it exists in print. However, this would be to grossly underestimate the function of words on a screen and the ability of anyone with even the most rudimentary knowledge of the workings of Microsoft Word to manipulate the written word, making it more attention-grabbing.

StorageOS, Inc. has announced the general availability of its software-defined persistent storage platform for running containerized applications in production.
Container adoption has been explosive as enterprises embrace DevOps and refactor applications to run in containers instead of directly on virtual machines. The company also announced an $8 million Series A funding round, led by existing investor Bain Capital Ventures with participation from new investors: MMC Ventures in the UK, where StorageOS R&D is located, and 645 Ventures in New York, StorageOS’ new U.S. headquarters. StorageOS will use the investment to expand product development and drive global sales.
Portworx, the best cloud native storage solution for Kubernetes, today announced the availability of PX-Enterprise 1.4, the most significant new release to-date of its comprehensive solution for running stateful containers in production. Updates in 1.4 include 3DSnap, the container industry’s first application consistent snapshot solution for complex Kubernetes applications, as well as a brand new graphical user interface (GUI) for PX-Enterprise optimized for multi-cloud environments. These new capabilities enable customers to store and protect containerized applications, including their mission critical data from a single platform, and were developed in collaboration with Portworx’s large and growing customer base, including 15 of the Fortune Global 1000.
In response to growing market concerns over data security and GDPR compliance, Astronomer, the open-source data engineering platform, has launched its Enterprise Edition, allowing for easy Apache Airflow deployment in a secure environment. Earlier this year, Astronomer announced the first managed Apache Airflow offering (available through its SaaS data platform). Enterprise Edition provides the same feature-rich access to Airflow, but through a customer’s own Kubernetes cluster. Astronomer Enterprise Edition customers get full access to all source code for the platform, and can therefore modify and extend it to suit their needs while keeping all data inside their own virtual private cloud (VPC).
"GDPR and other data security concerns are forcing organizations to weigh the risks of sending customer data to external vendors. We are seeing an acceleration of interest in our managed access to Apache Airflow for data collection and routing, but it’s matched by a demand for security and control of the data," said Ry Walker, Co-founder and CEO of Astronomer. "Enterprise Edition solves this problem and comes backed by the support and firepower of our leading Airflow engineers."
