Threat Stack, the leader in cloud infrastructure security, today announced streamlined deployment of the Threat Stack Cloud Security Platform designed to provide organizations with the ability to automate the deployment of Threat Stack’s agent as a separate container. With a new containerized version of its Cloud Security Platform agent, Threat Stack customers will be able to maintain security visibility as they continue to scale their container infrastructure without slowing down DevOps processes.

With the new deployment model, Threat Stack customers can leverage Kubernetes DaemonSets to automatically deploy Threat Stack’s agent alongside new container deployments, streamlining the install and management process. While the agent is deployed as its own container, it will provide the same in-depth host and container visibility as Threat Stack’s current agent installed directly on the host.

WekaIO, the innovation leader in high-performance, scalable file storage for data intensive applications, today announced that seasoned storage professional Suresh Vasudevan, the CEO of open source container vendor Sysdig and former CEO of Nimble Storage, has joined its newly established advisory board. Joining Vasudevan on the advisory board is Bill Moore, former founder and CEO of rack-scale flash array startup DSSD which was acquired by EMC in 2014, and Randy Seidl, founder of Revenue Acceleration and formerly of EMC and Hewlett Packard.

As CEO of Nimble Storage, from 2011-2017, Vasudevan led the company from an early-stage startup through a successful IPO, and to a customer-base some 10,000-strong coupled with almost $500 million in annual revenue, before its acquisition by Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). Prior to that Vasudevan was CEO of Omneon, Inc., and before that spent nearly a decade at NetApp, where he held various senior executive positions.

Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) announced the availability of T3 instances, the next generation of burstable general-purpose instances for Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), providing up to 30% improved price performance than previous generation T2 instances. Designed for applications with variable CPU usage that experience occasional spikes in demand – such as microservices, low-latency interactive applications, small and medium databases, virtual desktops, development environments, code repositories, and business critical applications – T3 instances enable customers’ applications to burst seamlessly to meet temporary traffic peaks and then scale back down to operate at typical traffic levels. T2 instances launched four years ago and have become the most popular instances for a wide range of workloads due to their low cost and unlimited burst capabilities. T2 instances are unlike any other burstable instance available in the cloud today in that customers can sustain high CPU performance for any period of time, whenever and however long required, and avoid application degradation if the instance exceeds its available CPU credits. This behavior has to be activated by customers for T2 instances, and because it isn’t the default behavior, customers sometimes didn’t realize that this important performance benefit was available to them. Based on customer feedback, T3 instances have this valuable unlimited burst capability enabled by default, so customers need not take any special action to enjoy this benefit.

Maxta today introduced a Hyperconverged "(Un)Appliance" for Red Hat Virtualization, a pre-configured system of Red Hat Virtualization software and Maxta Hyperconvergence software bundled together on Intel Data Center Blocks hardware. This joint solution provides all the advantages of appliance-based hyperconvergence without any of the disadvantages – there’s no refresh tax, no upgrade tax, no VMware tax, and no proprietary virtualization.

Hyperconverged (Un)Appliances collapse servers, storage, and networking into a single server tier that is used to run virtual machines and containers. Storage is configured automatically when VMs or containers are created allowing administrators to focus on managing applications rather than storage. The combination of Intel Data Center Blocks, Red Hat Virtualization and Maxta Hyperconvergence Software provides the operational and capital expense reductions desired by organizations, but in a way that is less expensive to procure, refresh and expand when compared to appliance-based hyperconvergence.
