Deduplication solutions ‘help to enable cloud storage’
The use of deduplication solutions could be effective for companies looking to migrate some or all of their data to the cloud, it has been suggested.
Speaking to the InfoStor website, Dennis Rolland, director of advanced technology at data protection company Sepaton, explained that the technology can act as an "enabler" for the introduction of cloud storage.
"It makes it practical to deploy cloud storage because you’re sending, say, ten times less data over the wide area network," he said.
HP ePrint news goes local
HP was smart enough to realise that once you’ve designed printers with network interfaces and enough processing power to run a touchscreen control panel, it doesn’t take all that much to add network based services.
For example, the ePrint models can print documents sent to them by email, and download and print daily news summaries and other content. The problem was that the initial news source was American.
HP has now added Australian news and headlines through Yahoo!7 Daily Brief.

Rackspace Seeks An Edge Over Amazon With Managed Cloud Launch
Rackspace Hosting on Tuesday launched a new managed cloud service, a hosted offering that the company says gives it an edge over commodity cloud players like Amazon (NSDQ:AMZN) Web Services.
"We’re bringing that managed service level over to the cloud," said Pat Matthews, senior vice president of cloud at Rackspace, adding that managed cloud takes some queues from Rackspace’s managed hosting launch of a decade ago. "It differentiates us from Amazon."

Lenovo: Convergence through cloud as future of IT
In an interview with ZDNet Asia during his recent trip to Singapore, Rory Read, president and chief operating officer of Lenovo, said the convergence technology, which allows seamless movement of data from one device to another, will be the next wave of innovation for the next three to five years.
Users will not want to move their data from their smartphone to other devices manually, said Read, noting that this will need to be done seamlessly. "Think about it. You will take a picture with your smartphone or smart camera. It’s going to automatically, [via] 3G, link up and distribute that information to your laptop," he illustrated.
