5 steps to choosing the right cloud provider

By David
Grazed from Business Cloud News.  Author:  Andy Brewerton.

Is your business considering a switch to cloud computing in the New Year? If so, you might want to take note of the following best practices from Andy Brewerton, Country Manager for cloud back-up specialists, EVault.

According to a recent Forrester Research report, about half of all midsize companies are either pursuing cloud-based services as part of their business practices, or they’re in their near-term implementation. Why? The realised benefits are clear– reduced infrastructure costs, pay-as-you-go services, flexibility, agility, and significantly reduced IT management and oversight.

Yet despite the massive migration to the cloud, businesses are still confused when it comes to data ownership, data privacy, data location, and cloud IT governance oversight…

Enterprises Cautiously Take Lead on Cloud Computing

By David
Grazed from Proformative.  Author: Editorial Staff.

Although small- and medium-sized businesses represented the typical early adopters of cloud computing, according to Forrester Research, large enterprises have now observed the immense benefits of the technology and are poised to take the lead on 2012 innovations.

Speed, flexibility, scalability and remote user support are just some of the factors expected to drive a wave of enterprise cloud investments in 2012, as early skepticism gives way to business necessities. According to cloud integration specialist Hubspan, companies will migrate enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) systems to the cloud to take advantage of transformative efficiency benefits.

However, with vast opportunity comes significant risk. In their rush to embrace new cloud services and construct cloud infrastructure, companies are encouraged to proceed with caution…

Deal means more SAP cloud changes

By David
Grazed from ComputerWorld.  Author:  Chris Kanaracus.

If its $3.4 billion bid to buy SuccessFactors is successful, SAP could finally stabilize its cloud computing strategy — which has so far been mostly ineffectual.

The agreement to acquire SuccessFactors, a provider of cloud-based human resources applications, was announced earlier this month. SAP expects it will close in early 2012.

In recent years, SAP hasn’t been able to settle on a cloud strategy. The application vendor’s cloud-based Business ByDesign ERP suite was pulled back in 2008 and reworked. The much-hyped offering was finally released this year. SAP claimed to have 650 Business ByDesign customers in October and projected reaching 1,000 by year’s end.

Along with the ERP services, SAP is developing a series of on-demand applications aimed at specific enterprise functions, some of which appear to significantly overlap with SuccessFactors products…

StillSecure – jumping the gun on cloud security?

By David
Grazed from ZDNet.  Author: Dan Kusnetzsky.

Security is one of the pressing issues when large enterprises consider deploying some workloads in a cloud computing environment. Rajat Bhargava, Chairman and CEO of StillSecure recently stopped by to discuss how his company is working to address this and other needs in a cloud computing environment.

StillSecure’s strategy is based upon two premises: 1) the industry is seeing a fundamental shift to outsourcing IT functions and 2) soon, enterprises will be looking to services providers, hosting companies and telecom providers for secure, well-managed environments in which to host their important workloads. Based upon those premises, StillSecure has been building tools and offering services to mid-market companies in the hopes of making their journey into the clouds safe.

To that end, StillSecure is offing the following products to service providers and services to end user organizations:…

By David

I reported a couple of weeks ago on The Cloud Maturity Index, a study being conducted by VMware’s Singapore office and Forrester Research.

Initial findings covered Malaysia, where 64 percent of respondents said they have deployed or are actively planning cloud initiatives.

Now the companies have released survey results about Thailand. The study (now in its second year) found that 90 percent of Thai organizations surveyed believe cloud computing is relevant to their company, and 32 percent already have cloud initiatives in place – up from 21 percent a year ago.

An additional 40 percent of organizations said they are actively planning cloud initiatives – one of the highest rates amongst the eight Asia Pacific countries studied, according to VMware…

Home cloud: Hands-on with the new Pogoplug Series 4

By David
Grazed from SFLuxe.  Author:  Editorial Staff.

Sick of living in the cloud?

The new Pogoplug Series 4 is a device that looks to take the best of cloud computing and home network-attached storage and combine the two into a seamless experience. Available today, it certainly seems like a perfectly timed idea in the wake of seemingly daily frustrations with services like Apple’s own iCloud and iTunes Match.

Maybe the fourth time’s a charm: I’ve reviewed multiple Pogoplugs before, but none of them came close to what this new version offers. The Pogoplug is a NAS drive without the complications, and it’s finally hit a sweet spot for price, size, and feature set. The newly released Pogoplug Series 4 is a latecomer to the holiday shopping season, but if you’re getting fed up with iCloud and what other cloud services have to offer, then this $99 device might be what you’re looking for…

Google Links Up to Microsoft Office with Cloud Connect

By David
Grazed from Technorati.  Author:  Anish Sharma.

Cloud Computing is an example of human advancement in computers technology, an enormous leap in the area of technology that is simple and easily understandable to everyone, even with little or no knowledge of computers.

Most of cloud apps are either very costly, or are meant for a larger database. Simple users with simple data have to rely on more costly storage to upload their files to the cloud.

Google Apps is one the best and cheapest of the all cloud apps, and is also free – up to 1 GB of the storage for each user…
