Looking At Cloud Strategy Through The Lens Of Value

By David
Grazed from Forbes.  Author: Eric Savitz.

If the innovative ways that businesses are using cloud computing haven’t set off alarms within your organization, it’s time that they did. Enterprises that look at the cloud solely through the lens of technology will be left behind by more agile competitors that use the cloud to develop innovative new business models based on faster time to market, new modes of customer interaction and more efficient operating models. Likewise, IT service providers that market their cloud offerings simply as technology solutions will be outmaneuvered by competitors that position their offerings based on the business value they deliver.

Gone are the days when cloud computing could be regarded as just the latest in a long line of technology trends. For leading-edge enterprises, the cloud has emerged as one of the key strategies CEOs are exploring to enable their companies not only to reduce costs, but, more importantly, to empower entirely new business models and offerings for customers…

Cloud computing is a revolution in how computing power is delivered to business. Cloud computing is where IT is delivered as a service. Instead of installing and managing an IT infrastructure on your own premises, it’s transparently provided by third parties across the internet. Cloud computing has been made possible by very large scale data centres connected to high speed, low cost broadband networks. With cloud computing, you can have 24/7 secure access to more business applications, on more devices, wherever you are–and you only pay for what you use…

By David
Grazed from IT News Online.  Author:  Sachin Choughule.

Over the years it has been observed that every new technology is first looked at with skepticism. Not all the technologies that are newly brought into the market affect the market and their functioning dynamics. Some fail to create the desired impact and are easily forgotten than noticed and taken into consideration.

Companies have to look at Cloud Computing as the next big Technological revolution changing the rules and the platform of business. In a country like India, the companies will now have to start exploring and researching on utilizing cloud computing…

Cloud and the evolution of the enterprise architect

By David
Grazed from GigaOm.  Author:  James Urquhart.

Enterprise architects have been a staple of corporate IT departments for well over a decade now, starting in earnest with the advent of service-oriented architecture and corporate data modeling. The need for enterprise architecture was spurred by the need to gain control over an increasingly complex computing environment, and an increasingly large backlog of data and feature needs. But those needs are changing, and so is the job of the enterprise architect.

The use of the term “architecture” in this context comes, in part, from the idea that one can create a “blueprint” for how a business can run on technology. The “architect” is someone who looks at the materials available, interviews the “client” (aka the business) about desired form and functional outcomes, and engineers solutions to meet those needs…

By David

Google has announced the arrival of its latest project and dubbed the cloud computing service "Google Drive."

Drive allows users to access their files at anytime, on any platform and starts users off with 5GB of free storage. The new service will ultimately replace Google Docs once an account switches over to Drive, but will retain many of the same features that Google Docs provided.

Users of the service simply install an app for their Windows PC or Mac and can then sync their files with their Drive account so no matter what, the files will be updated in real time and can be accessed from your tablet, phone, work, or anywhere for that matter…

‘Cloud’ Computing’s Substantial Footprint

By David
Grazed from HealthNewsDigest.  Author: Editorial Staff.

Leading tech companies like Google, Apple and Microsoft are now offering unprecedented amounts of data storage and access to “apps” on huge Internet-connected servers, saving consumers and businesses the hassle of installing and running programs and storing information on their own local computers.

This emerging trend, dubbed “cloud computing,” means that these providers have had to scale up their power consumption considerably, as they are increasingly responsible for providing more and more of the computing horsepower required by the world’s two billion Internet users. No doubt, sharing such resources on centralized servers is more efficient than every individual and business running their own versions separately. In fact, the research firm Verdantix estimates that companies off-loading data and services to cloud servers could save $12 billion off their energy bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 85 million metric tons within the next decade. But for the greenhouse gas savings to be realized, the companies offering cloud computing services need to make the right energy choices…

Cloud Computing: Four Steps for Transforming Enterprise IT

By David
Grazed from CFO.com.   Author: Timothy Chou.

With the growth in cloud service offerings, and the increasing adoption of private, public, and hybrid cloud computing strategies and practices within the enterprise, many people have begun discussing the future of the CIO and corporate IT.

Will the IT department simply become a purchasing organization managing a bunch of service contracts at the behest of finance and the lines of business? By the time 2020 rolls around, will there be any need for a CIO? After all, if, as Nick Carr predicted in his 2004 book Does IT Matter? IT truly becomes a utility, like, say, electricity, conferring no competitive advantage, well, we don’t have a CPO (Chief Power Officer), do we?…

The cloud has come to medical school. Cloud computing, of course, where organizations can store and manage data over the Internet.

It’s coming now to the University of Southern California (USC)’s Keck School of Medicine through a partnership with iChartsMD, which will provide its cloud-based electronic medical record (EMR) software for the school and its medical students, according to a story by Steve Campbell.

USC will have the ability to integrate a Drummond ONC- ATCB certified solution into its curriculum as well as the software tools the medical students will need to incorporate into their medial futures. The Drummond solution helps organizations develop and use electronic health records and then demonstrate “meaningful use” to qualify for federal financial incentives…
