BitNami Brings One-Click App Deployment to Windows Azure
June 6, 2012In conjunction with Microsoft Corp’s announcement of its new Virtual Machine Image Gallery for Windows Azure, BitNami has announced that it is making two of its popular open source application bundles available free of charge for Windows Azure. The BitNami application bundles, called stacks, allow developers to get their favorite web applications and development environments up and running on Windows Azure in minutes.
“We are excited to be working with BitNami to support their open source web applications and development frameworks on Windows Azure,” says Helene Love Snell, director of Marketing, Microsoft Server and Tools Business. “BitNami’s solution allows developers to get their favorite web applications up and running quickly and easily.”
The first two images being made available from BitNami’s library of over 45 different ready-to-run application packages are BitNami WebPack and BitNami DevPack. WebPack is focused on web publishing and includes the popular Drupal, WordPress and Joomla! website development platforms. DevPack includes Ruby on Rails, PHP, Django and Java development environments to give web developers a solid foundation on which to build their Windows Azure applications. Both BitNami images allow developers and systems administrators to bring up fully-functional servers in the cloud with a single click, simplifying the process of deploying applications and runtime environments for development, testing or production purposes.
“We are very happy to see Microsoft adding Virtual Machine capabilities to Windows Azure,” said Erica Brescia, CEO of BitNami. “The combination of our one click app deployment and the new Windows Azure functionality will make it easier than ever for developers to get their favorite applications up and running on Windows Azure.”
BitNami WebPack and DevPack for Windows Azure will be made available to users in the very near future. To learn more about BitNami for Windows Azure, visit: http://bitnami.org/azure
