Bare metal clouds are addressing performance and security issues with which IT professionals are often challenged. What exactly are these "metal" clouds? A recent article from ZDNet explains that bare metal cloud computing services are physical servers that follow the standard cloud model; they are built on demand and billed by the hour. This model can be an attractive option for growing firms looking for a flexible cloud solution that features a dedicated cloud server to address specific business needs.

David Chernicoff at ZDNet points out the challenges that midsize IT professionals face when it comes to finding the cloud to which they feel most comfortable moving their workloads. One main point is that bare metal clouds can do the trick because there is no virtualized environment; instead, a dedicated server is made available to the firm in the same way that virtualized services are presented. The article highlights the fact that the basic concept is the same as that of a VM server because contracts are based on per-hour and per-month usage, and the services are available on demand, a model that is attractive to growing firms that demand flexible payment solutions…
