Backblaze Launches Cloud to Cloud Migration Program along with S3 Compatible APIs

Today, Backblaze announced the launch of their Cloud to Cloud migration program along with their S3 Compatible APIs moving into general availability (GA). Backblaze’s cloud to cloud migration program promises to pay the data transfer fees for any customers looking to migrate 50TB or more worth of data from AWS. Their S3 Compatible APIs were first released in a beta version on May 4 and they saw thousands of customers uploading petabytes of data to their Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage.
During the beta period, more than 1,000 unique S3-compatible tools were used by customers to interact with the new Backblaze S3 compatible layer. Tools like CloudBerry, MinIO, and Synology were among the third parties that had pre-existing integrations with Backblaze but now also have customers uploading through Backblaze’s S3 Compatible APIs. Perhaps more notably, customers brought a wide variety of tools that had not previously seen upload data to Backblaze. User agents from Commvault, Cohesity, and Veeam all register now in Backblaze’s internal reporting. As do many AWS SDKs and even AWS Lambda.
Backblaze has committed to a bug free, highly functional, and stable experience, and has stated that their functionality and associated infrastructure is fully ready for global, exabyte scale business. Backblaze is removing the barriers that are keeping customers’ data locked within the cloud oligarchy.
Backblaze customers CloudSpot, a SaaS platform offering photographers the easiest way to share their work online, was one of the many success stories that Backblaze saw during the beta trails. CloudSpot Founder and CEO, Gavin Wade said, “With Backblaze, we have a system for scaling infinitely. It lowers our breakeven customer volume while increasing our margins, so we can reinvest back into the business. My investors are happy. I’m happy. It feels incredible.”
ESG Analyst, Scott Sinclair stated that “Many companies have an S3 compatible storage offering, but Backblaze is one of the few with a concrete plan for how to solve a key customer problem.”
