While it is important that technology providers are beginning to grapple with the requirements to move seamlessly from a private cloud to a public cloud, the assumption here is that the workload owner is willing to utilize a public cloud multi-tenant solution for their workload.  I’m not sure we’re there yet…

A strange dichotomy is forming around the emerging market for private clouds.

Despite, or perhaps because of, the relatively slow uptake of the technology so far, vendors continue to introduce ever-more-simplified cloud startup packages. At the same time, though, there seems to be a growing community of integrators, consultants and other experts who insist that the cloud is a lot more complicated than it’s made out to be, and getting started is the least of the difficulties.

According to Citrix, the acquisition of VMLogix makes it easy for cloud providers to offer infrastructure services from pre-production and quality assurance, to staging, deployment and business continuity.

And, Klaus Oestermann, group VP and GM, networking and cloud product group at Citrix said “the new enhancements raise the bar in cloud interoperability, scalability and self-service – further extending the company’s leadership position as the most widely deployed provider of virtualisation and networking solutions for the open cloud.

Citrix Systems is buying virtualization management software maker VMLogix as part of a larger strategy to improve the scalability and interoperability of its OpenCloud infrastructure platform.

Voltaire Ltd., a provider of scale-out data center fabrics, introduced the Voltaire Vantage 6048, a low-latency, high-performance Layer 2/3 top-of-rack switch optimized for cloud computing.

The switch features 48 ports of 10GbE line rate connectivity in a space-saving 1U device, Voltaire said in a release.

CA Technologies’ roughly $1 billion bet on cloud computing continued Monday with the $200 million cash purchase of Arcot Systems Inc, an authentication and fraud prevention player in the cloud and on premise.

The Arcot acquisition marks the sixth cloud-focused purchase for CA in a 14-month cloud computing spending spree that puts CA’s acquisition tally at around $1 billion.
