Taiwan’s Asustek Computer (Asus) has announced that it will be partnering with the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs to establish a new cloud computing services marketplace.

The new platform, Taiwan Digital Mega Mall, will be set up to integrate Taiwan-based content providers, development tool providers and online content stores, and will initially be focused on providing content providers (publishers, game operators and software vendors) with the means to make their content digitally available. The offering will be initially focused on business to business sales, although Asus has confirmed that this will eventually expand to include business to consumer interactions…

Asus, the world’s third largest personal computer vendor by sales, has been steadily growing its cloud services offerings in the Asia Pacific region for the past few years, and its private cloud business now has over 12 million customers – up from ten million at the end of 2012.

The company also co-founded Taiwan’s Cloud Computing Consortium, an organisation consisting of over 50 corporate members mandated to promote the adoption of cloud-based ICT and the development of a locally-based supply chain.

This is the latest in a series of cloud-focused partnerships Asus has embarked on. Taiwan Digital Mega Mall will be available by the end of 2013, and the company plans to bring the platform to mainland China by 2014.
