Asigra Inc., a leading cloud backup, recovery and restore software provider since 1986, today announced the Asigra Cloud Backup Plug-in for FreeNAS. The software-based solution combines iXsystems’ FreeNAS storage operating system and the new Asigra Cloud Backup V14 plug-in for FreeNAS for comprehensive data protection featuring powerful anti-ransomware capabilities. For a limited time, the solution is free to companies protecting up to ten systems and ten cloud accounts.

With the expansion of Asigra’s strategic relationship with iXsystems, the hundreds of thousands of FreeNAS systems currently deployed globally can now be optimized as turnkey backup systems using the Asigra Cloud Backup V14 plug-in. Users can run the plug-in for FreeNAS to enable fully agentless backup of all devices on the company’s network. Asigra automatically gathers data from designated desktops, laptops, servers, mobile devices, and even cloud sources, then compresses, encrypts, and deduplicates the data before it is sent to the FreeNAS system for secure storage.

Available with the Asigra FreeNAS backup system is a sophisticated signature-less malware detection engine that identifies and quarantines unauthorized or malicious embedded code, including unknown and zero-day attacks, from penetrating backup and replication streams. By continually scanning backup data, ransomware attacks are detected and automatically prevented from impacting the backup and recovery processes.

“iXsystems is committed to providing customers with an excellent open source platform for storage and plugins,” said Brett Davis, Executive Vice President, iXsystems. “With Asigra backup now available for the FreeNAS platform, small business customers can rely on this advanced backup platform with turnkey simplicity.”

Asigra FreeNAS Cloud Backup is a software-based solution configured with the company’s latest software, version 14. The software converges data protection and cyber security to counter rapidly growing malware attacks on backup data, including ransomware Attack-Loops. The new appliance protects a full range of backup targets, protecting data on laptops, desktops, servers, mobile devices and more. The fully agentless backup solution manages data volumes with global data deduplication and provides full encryption with FIPS 140-2 support. The solution offers rapid data restoration that limits downtime and provides automatic file versioning and point-in-time restoration.

“As a leading provider of backup for businesses and other organizations, we are excited to announce Asigra FreeNAS Cloud Backup to our line of products,” said Eran Farajun, Executive Vice President, Asigra. “Building upon the legacy of the highly acclaimed Asigra TrueNAS Backup Appliance, we now bring this powerful technology to small business and departmental enterprise customers that require the industry’s best data protection available.”
