Another EngineYard Co-Founder Leaves The Company

Ezra Zygmuntowicz, one of the four co-founders of EngineYard, a Ruby-on-Rails focused Platform as a Service (PaaS), has left the company. A well-known authority in the Rails world, Zygmuntowicz is moving to Portland, Ore. and will be working on a brand new company. Ezra made his decision to move on from EngineYard after four years public on his blog last week.

He outlines the story of EngineYard, from its boot strapping days to the switch from a Ruby-on-Rails-oriented hosting service provider to a cloud platform for apps. Tom Mornini and Lance Walley were the first co-founders in the company when it was founded in 2006; Jayson Vantyl joined later as the fourth co-founder.

Of the lot, only Mornini remains with the company. Walley is now the chief executive of Chargify, while Vantuyl has started a consulting company and is working on a stealth project.

We’ve been following Engine Yard since its early days. The company, which has raised nearly $38 million in funding from the likes of Benchmark Capital, New Enterprise Associates, Bay Partners, DAG Ventures and Amazon, was rumored to be in acquisition talks with VMWare, though it seems that those talks are stalled.
