Abiquo (News – Alert) has had a pretty active summer so far – from tripling its cloud management business in the first half of 2011 to announcing the general availability of Abiquo 1.8, the latest version of Abqiuo’s flagship Enterprise Cloud Management solution, to receiving the Cloud Computing World Series accolade for Best Cloud Management Solution. And fortunately for service providers, enterprises and developers out there looking for cloud management solutions, Abiquo is showing no signs of slowing down…
“You will continue to see Abiquo add in features again that the customers are asking for,” Wendy Perilli, vice president of global marketing for Abiquo, said of what we can expect from Abiquo for the rest of 2011.
Abiquo, a provider of cloud management solutions, was founded on the premise of creating a future where private and public clouds are fully interoperable and vendor neutral. The company embraces an open-source model in which both community users and commercial organizations can fully reap benefits from the cloud revolution, according to company officials.
Founded in 2006, Abiquo’s cloud solutions have quickly found a home in a variety of companies from Nexica to RoundArch to CariNet.
“Abiquo is an enterprise cloud management company and the way we think of it as the three legs of the stool,” Perilli said, noting that Abiquo boasts operational efficiency, a super intuitive graphical interface and an effective business policy. “Abiquo has done a nice job of bringing all of the right pieces together.”
Recently, the company made good on its commitment to put the right pieces together by announcing the general availability of Abiquo 1.8, the latest version of Abiquo’s flagship Enterprise Cloud Management solution.
Abiquo 1.8 further helps enterprises coordinate virtual and physical infrastructure management by adding Cisco (News 
– Alert) Unified Computing System as a device category in the physical inventory for hosts, and by supporting the Cisco Nexus 1000v switch. In addition, Abiquo 1.8 advances its leadership in business policy based Enterprise Cloud Management with completely configurable role-based access control, LDAP-based user authentication, as well as a vendor neutral, automatic VM restart capability that allows enterprises deploying multi-hypervisor datacenters to have a cost-effective, consistent and predictable high availability mechanism, according to company officials.
“The goal of the latest release is to serve the needs of the enterprise and to continue to add functionality and support for what exists in the enterprise today,” Perilli said.
“It continues to extend our enterprise focus, making sure that we are meeting the needs of what our enterprise customer really want,” Perilli added. “… There’s so much goodness in hearing what your customers say and getting it in a release.”
As the cloud market continues to burgeon and companies quickly enter the market, Abiquo remains competitive by fostering innovation and working closely with others in the space.
“The product speaks for itself,” Perilli said. “When people see the demonstrations we give, a lot of times they exclaim, ‘Wow that’s amazing that you can do all of that.’” That being said, working really closely with industry advocates and analysts in the space has helped us also.”
“We are continually asking our customers how can we make this better,” she added. “We don’t want to be distracted we want to serve our customers. It’s about being agile, communicating your intent and delivering on what the customer wants.”
