By David
Grazed from Portworx

Portworx, the best cloud native storage solution for Kubernetes, today announced the availability of PX-Enterprise 1.4, the most significant new release to-date of its comprehensive solution for running stateful containers in production. Updates in 1.4 include 3DSnap, the container industry’s first application consistent snapshot solution for complex Kubernetes applications, as well as a brand new graphical user interface (GUI) for PX-Enterprise optimized for multi-cloud environments. These new capabilities enable customers to store and protect containerized applications, including their mission critical data from a single platform, and were developed in collaboration with Portworx’s large and growing customer base, including 15 of the Fortune Global 1000.

"I chose Portworx as the cloud native storage layer for my multi-tenant container-as-a-service platform because it allows me to offer best-in-class features like high availability, auto-scaling, backup and recovery, and encryption to my customers at a reasonable cost," said Kris Watson, CEO of ComputeStacks, a company that provides a Docker container platform to service providers. "And now, PX-Enterprise with 3DSnap allows me to provide a time machine for my customer’s entire application, ensuring that I can always restore it to a particular point-in-time with guaranteed application consistency.  No one else can do that."

Astronomer Announces Secure, Private Cloud Option for Running Apache Airflow on Kubernetes

By David
Grazed from Astronomer

In response to growing market concerns over data security and GDPR compliance, Astronomer, the open-source data engineering platform, has launched its Enterprise Edition, allowing for easy Apache Airflow deployment in a secure environment. Earlier this year, Astronomer announced the first managed Apache Airflow offering (available through its SaaS data platform). Enterprise Edition provides the same feature-rich access to Airflow, but through a customer’s own Kubernetes cluster. Astronomer Enterprise Edition customers get full access to all source code for the platform, and can therefore modify and extend it to suit their needs while keeping all data inside their own virtual private cloud (VPC).

"GDPR and other data security concerns are forcing organizations to weigh the risks of sending customer data to external vendors. We are seeing an acceleration of interest in our managed access to Apache Airflow for data collection and routing, but it’s matched by a demand for security and control of the data," said Ry Walker, Co-founder and CEO of Astronomer. "Enterprise Edition solves this problem and comes backed by the support and firepower of our leading Airflow engineers."

Excelero Awarded Key Patent for Making NVMe over Fabrics (NVMf) More Efficient

By David
Grazed from Excelero

Excelero, a disruptor in software-defined block storage, was assigned US patent #9,971,519 today –  its second US patent –  governing a technique of performing NVMe access directly from a chip. This intellectual property (IP) will be utilized in upcoming SmartNIC-based versions of its flagship NVMesh Server SAN and provides customers with more efficient ways to use distributed NVMe using the open standard NVMf. Excelero is also in talks with NIC manufacturers about licensing this technology, which will help accelerate not just NVMesh, but also NVMf from any vendor.

IDC and Wikibon predict the NVMf market is "where the world is going," with present adoption focused on high-performance applications that require exceptionally high performance and low latency.  However, there is pent-up demand for NVMf storage among a wider set of use cases, as enterprises and service providers seek to optimize their infrastructures in the same way as the Tech Giants.

Iron Mountain Introduces Iron Cloud Critical Protection and Recovery to Safeguard High-value Data

By David
Grazed from Iron Mountain

Iron Mountain Incorporated, the global leader in storage and information management services, today announced Iron Mountain Iron Cloud Critical Protection and Recovery (CPR), a managed data protection solution to safeguard and restore critical data, providing confidence in recovery in the event of malicious denial of access attack. Available as part of Iron Mountain’s Iron Cloud purpose-built portfolio of cloud-based solutions, Iron Cloud CPR enables organizations to proactively protect vital digital information through secure isolation of their most essential data, providing critical availability of clean data in the event it is jeopardized by a cyberattack. This solution, as part of an enterprise risk containment plan, helps mitigate reputational damage, costs and lost revenue potential from unplanned operational downtime.

Organizations are applying digital capabilities to processes, products, and assets to improve operational efficiencies, enhance customer value, manage risk, and uncover new revenue opportunities. These digital transformation initiatives generate new types and sources of data increasingly targeted by malicious actors seeking to exploit the unique and highly valuable digital assets found in that data, especially medical and financial records. Today’s attacks challenge organizations to find solutions with sufficient protection, full restoration and rapid recovery capabilities to prevent the potential loss of revenue and erosion in brand reputation and company trust. Taken together, these factors have led organizations to a data protection and recovery crossroads, where conventional backup and recovery approaches are insufficient in isolating critical digital assets and enabling restoration following a cyberattack.

US Signal 2018 Security ‘Health of Nation’ Survey Reveals Organizations Had Increase in Cybersecurity Challenges

By David

Today, US Signal, leading end-to-end IT solutions provider, released the results of its 2018 Security ‘Health of the Nation’ survey, revealing that most organizations are still vulnerable to security threats.

The survey revealed that 81 percent of organizations witnessed an increase in cybersecurity challenges in the past year. In addition, 40 percent of respondents experienced at least one security incident in that time period, and 13 percent did not know if they had.

Nearly 120 security experts from a cross-section of organizations including technology, healthcare, education, food services and logistics, offered insights into the security health of their companies via SurveyTown. After 12 months of major hacks like the Equifax breach, the WannaCry and NotPetya ransomware outbreaks and the Spectre and Meltdown flaws in Intel chips, the findings reflect this surge in threats and demonstrate a need for stronger investment and education. Respondents’ top three security challenges included.
