Atlantis Computing, the leading provider of Software-Defined Storage (SDS), today announced the expansion of its hyperconverged appliance product line with the introduction of the Atlantis HyperScale CX-4 model and the availability of all models on the Dell PowerEdge FX2 server platform. The CX-4 appliance is a two-node hyperconverged integrated system with compute, all-flash storage, networking and virtualization designed for remote offices, branch offices (ROBO) and micro data centers.

Paul Delory, research director at Gartner Research, said, "ROBO infrastructure often takes the form of a micro data center, an architecture that is increasingly common for specific use cases. HCIS can make ideal building blocks for micro data centers. A cluster of HCIS appliances can be paired with a network switch to create a complete infrastructure stack that requires relatively little space, less power, no special cooling system, no nonstandard power outlets and no special mounting hardware. As computers continue to get smaller, computer trends are expanding in other ways including greater productivity and mobility in the workplace. Technology that wasn’t available in 2015 will be available to end users in 2016, including virtual reality and 3D cameras. Users will be able to take advantage of smaller computers and new technology in 2016, further increasing their computer power.

Digital Trends reported on some of the latest computer trends that will affect end users in 2016. One of the most important is virtual reality. Although this technology was available in 2015, end users won’t have wide access to it until 2016. The Oculus Rift will see its release in the first quarter of 2016, while the HTC Vive will be released in April…

Datadog—the New York startup that monitors how well (or not so well) its customers’ applications run in the cloud—now has $94.5 million in new funding, bringing its total to a healthy $147.9 million.  The company will use the money to flesh out its product line and beef up global operations in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Citrix’s CloudStack-based cloud orchestration platform, CloudPlatform, as well as its unified cloud services delivery and business management platform CloudPortal Business Manager have been acquired by Accelerite.  According a Monday announcement from Citrix, the acquisition will let Citrix focus its “core priorities around the secure delivery of apps and data.”

Average cloud computing pricing for enterprises has “fallen by two-thirds” since 2014, but pricing is now starting to “stabilise”, according to research TCL (Tariff Consultancy Ltd) has published its Pricing the Cloud 2 – 2016 to 2020 report, which includes a survey of published cloud pricing from more than 20 top public cloud providers worldwide.

First-of-its-kind feature eliminates packaging complexities and application conflicts to support hyper-sophisticated desktop application-handling scenarios.
