Keysight Technologies announced Cloud Sensor vTap, a new feature of CloudLens from Ixia, a Keysight Business. Cloud Sensor vTap enables organizations to better manage their security risk in private and hybrid cloud environments, such as Microsoft Azure Stack, with comprehensive visibility into East-West traffic without requiring hypervisor access.

The rapid increase in cloud adoption has heightened the need for securing data, applications, and workloads that reside in any cloud-based environment. In fact, in a recent Ixia survey, Lack of Visibility Drives Public Cloud Security Risk, 82 percent of IT professionals indicated they are concerned with security and data privacy in the private cloud.

Cloud computing ranks as the top risk concern for executives in risk, audit, finance and compliance, according to the latest survey by Gartner, Inc. While cloud computing presents organizations with novel opportunities, a number of new risks – including cybersecurity disclosure and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance – make cloud solutions susceptible to unexpected security threats.

In Gartner’s latest quarterly Emerging Risks Report, 110 senior executives in risk, audit, finance and compliance at large global organizations identified cloud computing as the top concern for the second consecutive quarter. Additional information security risks, such as cybersecurity disclosure and GDPR compliance, ranked among the top five concerns of the executives surveyed.

The top two fast-moving, high-impact risks – those which have the ability to cripple an organization quickly – are also related to information security threats. Social engineering and GDPR compliance were cited as most likely to cause the greatest enterprise damage if not adequately addressed by risk management leaders, according to Gartner. However, only 18 percent of the cross-functional executives surveyed currently considered social engineering to be a significant enterprise risk.

In an effort to help secure U.S. election systems, McAfee, the device-to-cloud cybersecurity company, has announced it will offer state election officials in all 50 United States access to a free twelve-month license of McAfee Skyhigh Security Cloud. The McAfee Cloud for Secure Elections Program will help ensure that the cloud-based storage services housing voter and citizen data are properly configured for maximum security and are continuously monitored for internal and external intrusion, and that no citizen or voter data is improperly uploaded to or shared from cloud services.

Open infrastructure builders and users from a diverse swath of industries and open source technologies will meet in Berlin November 13-15 at the OpenStack Summit where they will share their work on integration of open infrastructure technologies and offer an inside look at their deployments and use cases. The agenda for the event is now live and features 100+ sessions addressing more than 35 open source projects, including new projects hosted at the OpenStack Foundation: Kata Containers, Zuul, Airship and StarlingX.

Enterprises are continually seeking new economic models for IT practices, including public cloud leverage. However, due to data volume constraints created by on-premises to cloud communications, few large organizations embrace cloud-based DR due to bandwidth/latency limitations or costs. This is especially the case when using primary infrastructure replication. While modern backup products claim reduced bandwidth and cloud DR storage costs, backups are intrusive, and their restore points are typically too far apart for DR SLAs. Above either, DR orchestration software requires ongoing multi-vendor compatibility and software maintenance, leading to complexity and frequent failures in DR tests.
