In May, Google announced that it would alter the price of its cloud computing service App Engine, the company’s Platform as a Service offering, later in the year, presumably in an effort to turn the product into another profit centre for the company. Google has now announced that the price changes will occur in the second half of September, at the same time as the product officially loses its "preview" tag. Google has provided a tool that lets existing users calculate how much they’ll pay under the new service…

The rise of cloud computing need not mean that in-house IT staff become redundant, it has been claimed.

According to Microsoft cloud evangelist Simon May, the skills needed by tech workers will change, but they will not become redundant.

He commented that IT professionals are "really, really intelligent" individuals, who continue to add value to UK organisations….

A panel of policy makers and advisors has blamed legacy software vendors and integrators for “disinformation” that has kept governments from adopting cloud technology.

Former US Government chief information officer Vivek Kundra told cloud vendor Salesforce.com’s Dreamforce conference of “cartels” of contractors that aimed to “put in as many people as possible and charge exorbitant rates”.

In February, Kundra introduced the Federal Cloud Computing Strategy (pdf) and Cloud First Policy (pdf), which required agencies to move three services to the cloud within 18 months…
