This was announced on January 10, 2014 by the Verizon Company that its customers can now use Oracle Fusion middleware and Oracle DB on their cloud computing infrastructure. The customers have double options to use Oracle platforms; they can bring their own Oracle license to use Oracle DB and middleware on Verizon infrastructure or they can also get the Oracle DB and middleware services that are already available with licenses on Verizon cloud services.

In the statement of the company, the commitment of the company to provide the consolidated ecosystem of enterprise level information technology services on the cloud computing based infrastructure of Verizon Company. Verizon has started its cloud based enterprise IT service in the month of October 2013 in beta version. These cloud computing services of the Verizon company are being offered under the auspices of the Enterprise Solution Group of Verizon…

Dropbox said Sunday it was making progress in restoring service after the popular file storage service went offline on Friday.  As of Sunday afternoon Pacific time, the service said more than 99 percent of users can access their files. But five percent of users were having trouble syncing files from the desktop client, and about 20 percent were having issues with Dropbox’s mobile applications.

"Within a few hours, well be rolling out a change that will further improve things for those users," according to a blog post.  Dropbox dismissed claims on Friday that it had been hacked and attributed the problems to "routine internal maintenance."…

The cloud computing industry in the United States is under threat as several businesses have chosen to move data outside of the country as a result of the shocking revelations by Edward Snowden of National Security Agency’s (NSA) snooping programs. Many companies fear the NSA might gain access to their data, which is the main reason for moving data from the U.S. into another country. This is a huge problem for the United State’s cloud industry, and it could lead to the loss of billions of dollars if the exodus continues.

The information came from a survey performed by PEER 1 Hosting. The website claims that its findings were based on a 10 minute survey conducted on 300 small companies and 250 employees based in Canada and the UK…

There’s no doubt that individuals, startups, and smaller businesses have been the first movers in Platform as a Service (PaaS), and that’s natural. It’s natural because PaaS, particularly fully managed services offerings, gives organizations a chance to focus on creating and delivering applications while leaving behind the burden associated with infrastructure and operations. Mixed in with these early adopters have been some larger companies executing on a top-down directive to ‘take advantage of the cloud.’

Lately though, the industry has seen a major shift toward more enterprise-level adoption as an overall trend. Why? One of the biggest reasons for strong growth on the enterprise side is that traditionally late adopter enterprises are being disrupted by the smaller early adopters. In some ways, this is the wave of Software as a Service (SaaS) and mobile offerings coming to market and impacting traditional players in many spaces. In other ways, it’s the IT department finally responding to the developers standing outside of their offices carrying pitchforks and torches. Overall, two quite different use cases are leading this move towards PaaS.…

When someone says "the cloud," the first example people usually think of is Amazon. Likewise, when someone says "software as a service," the first example is most often Salesforce.com.  It’s like Xerox and copiers, Kleenex and tissue paper, or Coca-Cola and soft drinks. It takes an extraordinary market presence—not to mention staying power—to become the preeminent enterprise in a specific sector.

Salesforce earned its high-recognition place at the table in about seven years; Amazon did so for its Web services business in even less time. That speaks volumes about the power and influence of those two companies…

After two years of back-and-forth litigation between broadcasters and Aereo (a CCIA member), the Supreme Court agreed today to hear an appeal of the Second Circuit’s decision in favor of Aereo. (S.Ct. Dkt. No. 13-461). The court’s eventual decision as to the legality of Aereo’s streaming TV service will have significant ramifications in the cloud computing industry. When broadcasters sought Supreme Court review late last year, Aereo took the unconventional position of agreeing to review for a case it had won, explaining that it wanted to fight on the merits, rather than wage a "wasteful war of attrition."

Aereos technology, which is available in major cities including New York, Boston, Atlanta, and Houston, gives subscribers access to their locally available broadcast television signals via arrays of user-controlled remote antennas. Broadcasters contend that this remote access violates their public performance rights under the Copyright Act…

Fully a quarter of businesses are moving data out of the US as a result of revelations about the scope of data gathering by the US National Security Agency, claims Canada-based cloud hosting provider PEER 1 Hosting. Some qualifications apply: The survey behind the company’s assertion doesn’t cover 25% of all businesses. It describes findings from a 10-minute survey of 300 small companies — 250 employees or less — based in the UK and Canada.

When the sample is confined to just Canadian companies, 33% say they plan to move data out of US datacenters. Evidence of that exodus isn’t extensive: PEER 1 was able to point to one client, iDigital, that has been dealing with data flight. Matt McKinney, managing director of iDigital, an 85-person cloud hosting provider based in British Columbia, Canada, said in a phone interview that privacy is particularly important to Canadians, noting that the country has been aggressive in dealing with online privacy through its regulatory agencies…
