A Better Way To Integrate Saas Services And Marketplaces

By David

Grazed from Forbes. Author: Ayo Omojola.

Since starting Hipmob, we’ve tried to make it easy to use us along with the other tools that you use. With that in mind, we have over three dozen integrations with services as varied as Zendesk, Salesforce, to Shopify. Some have been more successful than others in terms of lead generation, general awareness and revenue, but in polling our fellow founders, we’ve discovered that the ROI for integrations in general is pretty low.

Most integrations seem to be more useful when you’re lucky to have a customer that uses both your product and the partner’s product. Otherwise it’s a hard sell. In our experience though, this is a huge missed opportunity; to make customers happy, to drive leads on both sides of the table, and to drive forward the cause of APIs as a whole…

3 Cloud Computing Myths Busted

By David

Grazed from BrightStarr. Author: Lester Maceren.

SharePoint is not new in the world of enterprise technology. However with SharePoint Online and Office 365 there is one additional element that is turning heads for businesses everywhere: the Cloud. Despite its increasing presence in the global workplace, many still have misconceptions about what "the Cloud" actually is, and how it can help businesses to become more productive. The hesitation against the Cloud usually presents itself in three areas: security, costs and user control. Let’s dive in and bust the myths surrounding these three areas.

Security of Data in the Cloud

One common myth about the Cloud is that it is not secure, and that data kept within the Cloud can be easily compromised by external sources. This is an understandable concern as many organizations, private and public alike, have highly sensitive and confidential data around products, financials and customers or clients…

Red cloud rising: cloud computing in China

By David

Grazed from Eldis. Author: Editorial Staff.

In recent years the Chinese government has prioritized the development of cloud computing technology with the twin goals of expanding Chinese military and civilian access to cloud computing information technology (IT) resources and creating an internationally competitive Chinese cloud computing service industry.

This brief argues that China’s plans in this area have the potential to materially impact US economic and security interests. The emergence of China-based cloud computing services and solutions may raise significant concerns for US consumers, particularly if their data is being stored or processed using infrastructure located within Mainland China…

Cloud Infographic: Data Security Risk And Prevention

By David

Grazed from CloudTweaks. Author: Editorial Staff.

Cloud computing inherits the security issues pertaining in the technologies that it uses, which consists chiefly of the risk of a breach in the integrity or confidentiality of information. One security measure is encrypting stored data, but there are drawbacks with encryption and it does not always protect data.

In cloud services, it is very important that the service provider has the trust of his customer and he does not exploit this in any way. There is no way to be 100% sure of your cloud service providers being trustworthy. There are certain legal issues entangled with cloud security as well, because there are certain laws that cloud service providers should comply with and these laws vary from country to country. Users have no idea or control over where or in what jurisdiction their data is being physically stored over the cloud…

Place Your Bets: The Cloud Business Window Is Closing

By David

Grazed from CRN. Author: Steven Burke.

It’s a sudden death overtime for any and all solution providers that have not made a big cloud computing bet. All you need to do to see that time is running out is look at some of the major moves executed by solution providers and vendors anxious to up their cloud solutions game. No matter how you cut it, customer adoption of the cloud is happening at a faster pace than anyone anticipated, and it has all comers scrambling to play catch-up in what is sure to be an era of heightened channel conflict.

On the vendor front, Cisco Systems just scored a triple whammy at its Partner Summit with its own public cloud offering, the elimination of the Silver designation, and the requirement that Gold status partners invest more heavily in Cisco Powered Cloud and managed services offerings…

These 2 Companies Are Losing the Cloud Price War

By David

Grazed from Fool. Author: Timothy Green.

The cost of cloud computing is rapidly declining, and for the past few years, Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) has been dictating the pace of this decline. Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) has been matching the price cuts of Amazon, ensuring that its Azure cloud is competitive, but Amazon has always led the way.

With Google’s (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) recent slashing of its own cloud computing prices, Amazon was forced on the defensive, cutting prices reactively instead of proactively. This marks an important shift, and the cloud computing price war now ensuing will certainly lower the margins of all companies involved. Smaller companies like Rackspace (NYSE: RAX) will be hit the hardest, but of the big three, Amazon will be hurt more than the rest…

Infor Targets Automotive Industry with CloudSuite

By David

Infor is tackling the large automotive industry vertical and hoping to get more companies in the sector on board with cloud computing. Infor launched CloudSuite Automotive, an extension of its recently announced CloudSuite offering for Amazon Web Services (AWS). Like its non-verticial-specific version, CloudSuite Automotive is available via AWS. And according to Infor, the cloud solution was designed with the specific needs of the automotive sector in mind.

"With more than 80 percent of the world’s largest automotive suppliers running Infor applications, we’ve seen first-hand the interest from the industry to move to the cloud to take advantage of its clear benefits, like easier maintenance and lower TCO, that aren’t necessarily offered with on-premise applications," said John Bermudez, vice president of Product Management at Infor, in a prepared statement…

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella Continues Stellar Start With Windows Azure

By David

Grazed from CloudTweaks. Author: Glenn Blake.

At last week’s BUILD developer conference in San Francisco, Microsoft announced major changes to their cloud computing platform, Windows Azure. These changes included added support for foreign languages and third-party tools, and the introduction of the Azure Preview Portal, which allows developers to build and manage instances while they are running. These improvements will go a long way to helping Microsoft compete with other cloud computing giants like Google and Amazon.

When Satya Nadella was appointed CEO of Microsoft in February 2014, the company was stagnant in terms of product innovation. The man Nadella replaced, Steve Ballmer, does deserve credit for raking in enormous profits for the company. But under Ballmer’s tenure Microsoft lagged behind the technology developments of its competitors, especially in the realm of cloud computing…

Why open infrastructure matters in the cloud

By David

Grazed from OpenSource. Author: Jason Baker.

When reading a recent article by Red Hat CEO Jim Whitehurst, I was struck by a comparison made between OpenStack and the interstate highway system. The article in Wall Street and Technology, called "OpenStack: Five things every executive needs to know," mostly focused on the high points of where OpenStack is in its development cycle. But the highway analogy stuck with me.

Part of what made the interstate highway system successful was its standardization and its open nature. "Unlike the early days of the railroads, where track gauges differed and companies refused to interconnect their networks, interstates are open to all who wish to use them," Whitehurst writes. Signage, road widths, and most other components of the system remain generally familiar as one moves from state to state and region to region, with some minor but acceptable variation…
