Cloud Computing Faces Rising Threats

By David

Grazed from Elastica.  Author: Editorial Staff.

The cloud computing security landscape is complex with its constant movement of data between devices, networks, and the cloud. The cloud provides great opportunities to attackers, results in shadow IT, and places an ever greater security burden on endpoints. Today, businesses use the cloud not just to host applications, but also to manage and analyze data.

As the cloud becomes increasingly popular with small and large businesses, ever more valuable and critical data is moved to it. Cloud security has been in the news over the last week with a new report out on it…

Get one-stop access to your cloud accounts with Jumptuit

By David

Grazed from CNET. Author: Matt Elliot.

Cloud computing promised ease and convenience in accessing your data from any Internet-connected device, and it delivers on that promise. I love being able to access photos on Flickr from my phone or a friend’s computer, for example. I can also grab a recipe I have on Google Drive when I’m in the grocery store or share a file from Dropbox when I’m basically anywhere. No argument here — cloud computing has added a level of ease and convenience to my life.

The trouble is, I have accumulated a fair number of cloud computing services over the years that I use regularly. I discovered an iPhone app called Octonius a few months ago that lets me search across Dropbox, Evernote, and Google Drive for files that I know I have in the cloud but can’t remember exactly where…

How to create an effective cloud security strategy

By David

Grazed from ITProportal. Author: Jes Breslaw.

Cloud technology has started to reach its maturation point – it’s a major part of almost every IT strategy, and is used across all industries all over the world. Gartner predicts that the bulk of new IT spending by 2016 will be for cloud computing platforms and applications, with nearly half of large enterprises having cloud deployments by the end of 2017.

Why is cloud so important? It’s because each and every one of us wants to start using our mobile devices for business, as seamlessly as we do in our personal lives. This ability to work from anywhere is enabled by the convergence of cloud and mobile technology, so that we have constant access to the content we need…

Cloud Computing: Is the Risk Worth the Reward?

By David

Grazed from PlanetLotus. Author: Marta Farensbach.

These days, marketers and media alike are focusing their attention on the “cloud” creating a lot of interest and buzz. But what exactly is the “cloud”? This term is sometimes used as a metaphor for the Internet as a whole. In business, it really refers to the software platforms and infrastructure delivered as services via the Internet. In some ways, almost every organization is operating in the cloud already. Websites, social media, email, online meetings and video calls are all examples of cloud computing.

Typically, end-users access cloud applications via a browser or mobile device, while key information and back-end software are stored and processed on remote servers controlled by a third party. To be more formal, we can use the definition from the EU Agency for Information Security (ENISA) which defines cloud computing as “an on-demand service model for IT provision, often based on virtualization and distributed computing technologies.”…

Hybridization Has the Potential to Change the Economics of Cloud Computing

By David

Grazed from Tmcnet. Author: Laura Stotler.

I recently got the opportunity to interview Simon Withers, vice president of Global Cloud Product at Sungard Availability. His company, which has been in the managed IT services business for more than 30 years, has seen massive growth in the private cloud services space over the last couple of years, which isn’t surprising. What may be a game changer, however, is the rapid hybridization that is occurring in the cloud computing economy as organizations begin to understand the benefits of blending public and private infrastructure.

Withers said that hybridization is occurring across a number of infrastructure levels, and customers are rapidly realizing the importance of combining the security and customization of the private cloud with the cost savings and efficiencies of public cloud infrastructure. “What we are seeing at Sungard Availability Services is high growth in private services,” said Withers. “Ironically, at the same time, the majority of our managed cloud implementations are hybrid IT with increasing prevalence in the last twenty-four months.”…

Cloud storage firm Box may delay its IPO to wait for improving market conditions, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. The IPO may now take place in June, Bloomberg reports, citing “people familiar with the matter. Box filed its IPO documents on 24 March, making it eligible to list its shares as early as April.

The firm was looking to raise $250 million, despite widening losses. Market valuations put Box’s worth at around $2 billion. New Cloud Survey Highlights Performance Anxieties

By David

Grazed from InformationWeek. Author: Andrew Conry Murry.

A new survey sponsored by Compuware asked 740 senior IT professionals about their cloud provider concerns, in particular whether cloud customers have sufficient visibility into and control over application performance. According to the survey, 79% of respondents say typical SLAs based on availability are too simplistic. Of course, if you don’t like an agreement, you can push back.

Many do. According to the 2013 State of Cloud Computing survey conducted by InformationWeek, a majority of respondents using cloud services don’t sign off on a boiler-plate SLA; 60% say they review and then negotiate terms. Another 17% give a template that the provider must conform to—a number that jumped by 6% compared to 2012…

Oracle Talks Marketing Cloud Vision

By David

Grazed from CruxialCIO. Author: Antone Gonsalves.

Oracle intends to build a cloud-based marketing service that combines several acquired technologies into a single platform for creating ad campaigns based on unified customer data. Mark Hurd, the company’s president, discussed the vision for the Oracle Marketing Cloud April 30 at a special event at The Museum of Arts and Design in New York City.

The marketing service envisioned by Oracle will combine the technology from a handful of companies the vendor has acquired over the last couple of years, including BlueKai, Compendium, Eloqua and Responsys. Technologies from these companies will be integrated with the Oracle Social Cloud to create the new marketing platform. Social Cloud lets marketers manage relationships with customers over social media channels…
