During Google I/O, the company’s annual developers conference, the company announced a bunch of new features for its cloud computing services. Google has been in a three-way price-and-feature war with Amazon and Microsoft over the cloud. Every time one of them adds features and lowers prices, the others follow suit.

Google always mentions its flagship cloud customer, Snapchat, and this time was no exception. But this time around, Google’s top cloud guy, Urs Hozle, also name-dropped several other big names that chose Google over Amazon, including hot anonymous app Secret; the company that does instant voting for The Rising Star TV show, Screens; and online tech school Khan Academy…

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that Aereo violates copyright law. Some say the ruling effectively kills Aereo and similar business models. Others might argue that what the ruling effectively kills is any business model that does not involve paying licensing fees to local broadcasters for the right to retransmit local broadcast signals, as routinely is done by cable TV, satellite TV and telco TV providers.

In essence, any future “retransmission” service similar to Aereo, but paying licensing fees to local broadcasters, would resemble the earliest cable TV systems, which simply retransmitted distant market TV signals to rural areas that could not receive the signals over the air. The business problem, for any future Aereo-style off-air signal retransmission service, is that such features already are provided by linear video distributors. So there is no unmet market need…

Shotgun makes popular production-management software that helps production, post and visual effects coordinate their efforts. Microsoft is rather aggressive in its policy to woo customers and as part of its cloud offerings, it has made changes to price structure of One Drive cloud storage service. In addition, the free storage capacity of One Drive is boosted from 7 GB to 15 GB with a corresponding price reduction for paid models and for Office 365 users. The proposed changes will come into effect in July. Important changes worth noting are:

• Free users will be automatically upgraded to 15 GB from 7 GB currently in place.
• Office 365 subscribers will see their storage space increased from 20 GB to 1 TB
• Office 365 personal users will pay about $ 10.8 per month; Office 365 home users will pay $ 13.58 per month and University users are expected to pay $102 for 4 years…

Last week, Dell released the first user-contributed updates to its Dell Wyse Cloud Connect solution, marking the introduction of several new features for its new enterprise cloud access device. Dell announced the updates to Wyse Cloud Connect earlier this month at a press even in New York, where the company showed off the new capabilities developed directly from customer and analyst feedback since it was first introduced in January.

“Since January we’ve kept our eyes and ears open to ensure that the device’s evolution keeps up with our customers’ needs and demands,” said Jeff McNaught, the executive director of Marketing and chief strategy officer for Cloud Client-Computing at Dell, in a blog post. “Our goal is to continuously make people’s jobs easier by enhancing convenience and usability for end users, while simultaneously improving and facilitating IT control and security.”…
