Virtustream Launches Industry-Leading Cloud Automation and Security Capabilities for Enterprise Customers

By David

Virtustream, an enterprise-class cloud company and a Dell Technologies business, today announced a major upgrade to Virtustream Enterprise Cloud that includes significant cloud automation and security enhancements, which enable enterprises the unprecedented ability to automate key tasks while maintaining security levels – a multi-part process that previously required manual oversight. This technology evolution builds on Virtustream’s expertise in delivering highly scalable, secure and high-performance cloud services for mission critical enterprise applications.

The enhancements also feature a foundationally new version of the xStream cloud management software platform including an enhanced architecture and application programming interface (API), in addition to the ability to address many of the specific challenges presented when migrating and managing enterprise applications in the cloud.

"Enterprise applications and workloads require special handling and care," said Deepak Patil, SVP, Product and Technology, Virtustream. "Historically, enterprise cloud customers had constraints that precluded them from flexibility and conveniences- such as quick provisioning-that are leveraged by cloud consumers with less complex use cases. This was primarily due to concerns about security, backups, monitoring and other issues. Virtustream’s new enhancements simplify and automate the most complex actions delivering immediate value to customers."

DigitalOcean Releases Kubernetes as a Service

By David

DigitalOcean, the cloud for developing modern apps, announced that its managed Kubernetes service is now available with production-ready functionality and full customer support. Since launching its early access release in May of this year, 30,000 developers and teams have already signed up for access. Starting today, the service is available to all developers worldwide.

"Kubernetes promises to be one of the leading technologies in a developer’s arsenal to gain the scalability, portability and availability needed to build modern apps. Unfortunately, for many it’s extremely complex to manage and deploy," said DigitalOcean VP of Product Shiven Ramji. "With DigitalOcean Kubernetes, we make running containerized apps consumable for any developer, regardless of their skills or resources. We do this by automating the management of Kubernetes clusters and the provisioning of nodes to make it faster and easier to run containerized apps. We also infuse guided UI experiences and open APIs to provide the right level of support throughout the developer’s journey."

Global Survey: Maturity of the Technology Spurs Cloud Adoption More than Business Drivers or Culture Change

By David

Business goals are not enough to compel companies to move to the cloud-rather, it is the maturity, flexibility and reliability of cloud technology that are driving companies to increase and expand their adoption, according to the latest report released by the Cloud Foundry Foundation, home of a family of open source projects including Cloud Foundry Application Runtime, Cloud Foundry Container Runtime, and Cloud Foundry BOSH. The report was announced at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2018.

"As IT decision makers have experienced the impressive benefits of the cloud, they have broadened their adoption to more sophisticated technologies in the platform and application development layer of the stack, such as PaaS, containers and serverless," said Abby Kearns, Executive Director, Cloud Foundry Foundation. "We’re seeing a virtuous cycle, as comfortability with one technology results in lightning-speed adoption of more advanced technologies. In a decade, we can expect serverless to be as commonplace as PaaS."

Circadence Brings Project Ares Cybersecurity Platform to Microsoft Azure

By David

Circadence helps address one of today’s biggest cybersecurity learning challenges through its connection with Azure: scalability. By hosting Project Ares on Azure, Circadence has established a learning environment that can scale to replicate networks, complex enterprises, interconnected city infrastructure, and even military operations, with full digital fidelity.

Within Project Ares, CyRaaS – or Circadence’s Cyber Range-as-a-Service – is the innovative capability that spins up simulated, virtual environments. When cloned in CyRaaS, the learning model is computationally elastic. It can be used for individual skill-based learning, team collaboration and interaction, staff or student assessment, cyber-attack scenario testing, and more – and then be restored to the original state with the flip of a virtual switch. CyRaaS creates authentic, immersive, real-world learning experiences for cyber professionals who can now safely enhance their skillsets and performance without compromising operational infrastructure.

Morpheus Data Multi-Cloud Management Platform Powers Self-Service Access to Big Data for EU Member States and Researchers

By David
Today, Morpheus Data announced it has been chosen as the multi-cloud management platform for a strategic EU-wide project which also included technologies from Morpheus alliance partners such as VMware, Dell Technologies, and T-Systems.

This announcement comes at the end of a fiscal year that saw Morpheus Data grow revenue over 3x and increase sales coverage by 6x in response to increased customer, channel partner, and service-provider demand for DevOps-ready multi-cloud management.

According to 451 Research, over 68% of organizations have a hybrid or multi-cloud approach to service delivery. Unfortunately, while agility is the ultimate outcome desired by hybrid IT, increasing cloud and operational complexity has resulted in major organizational friction. Application developers and data scientists are constantly waiting weeks for operations teams to provision services.
