Microsoft commits to help plug gaps in cloud computing in PH

MICROSOFT Philippines will help promote cloud computing services as an effective solution in organizing government and commercial infrastructures.
In a press statement, it said it made the pledge during the recently concluded policy workshop “Leveraging the Cloud to Promote Sustainable Development.”…
“We, at Microsoft, recognize the advantages of deploying cloud computing services, which can enhance work productivity, enable better business processes, and support green computing,” said Dondi Mapa, national technology officer of Microsoft Philippines and one of the speakers during the event.
The Business Software Alliance (BSA), Commission on Information and Communication Technology (CICT) and the Information Technology Association of the Philippines (ITAP) organized the workshop.
They aimed to increase the awareness of integrating cloud computing in business and government operations, as well as to ensure that appropriate policies are in place.
Asia has the potential to become the worldwide hub for cloud computing services, said the BSA in launching its comparative study “The APAC Digital Economy and Cloud Computing Scorecard 2011.”
For the Philippines to participate in cloud computing, “it should enable secure and safe infrastructures for its businesses. The Philippines can maximize cloud computing services and be able to generate greater benefits that will improve economic growth and attain sustainable development,” said Roger Somerville, BSA senior director for software policy in the Asia-Pacific.
