Cloud Management Report 2017 Now Available

CloudCheckr has released the 2017 Cloud Management Report, a new study into how leading organizations migrate to the cloud and optimize their IaaS investments. This report offers surprising insights into the ways organizations are establishing a cloud center of excellence (CCoE) to dramatically improve their public cloud deployments.
Key findings:
- 94% of organizations face challenges in public cloud adoption
- 33% report that business leadership has a strong understanding of the cloud
- 81% say they need to improve communication between departments
- 63% have added new roles to deal with cloud adoption
- 46% have already formed a CCoE
- 83% report having a CCoE is effective
Among the study’s findings is that executives (43%) are much more confident in their visibility and control of public cloud deployments than the managers and individual contributors who use the cloud on a daily basis (16%).
This discrepancy raises questions around whether executives are overconfident about cloud environments and missing important information that could introduce risk to their teams. It also suggests executives may underestimate how much investment in the cloud is necessary to achieve strategic goals, or which tools may be required to effectively manage their infrastructure.
"Moving into the public cloud is an important transformation for many enterprises, which means it takes centralized expertise, informed decision-making, vision, and strategic direction from business leadership to make sure the migration is done right," said Aaron Newman, CEO and co-founder at CloudCheckr. "We commissioned this study to see how cloud leaders are directing their enterprises through cloud adoption, collaborating across departments to take a companywide approach, and maximizing the benefits of their public cloud investments."
The report explores a series of challenges that prevent organizations from establishing an expert CCoE, including cloud adoption moving too quickly to operationalize (28%), lack of understanding of issues in the cloud (24%), and lack of direction from the top (24%).

A CCoE is a cross-functional team of people responsible for developing and managing the cloud strategy, governance, and best practices that the rest of the organization can leverage to transform the business using the cloud.
In the 2017 Cloud Management Report, details emerge about the benefits of establishing an expert CCoE, including greater control, cost management, coordination among departments, use of third-party tools for optimization, and understanding of the cloud by senior executives.
