Viptela, Inc., today announced Viptela Cloud onRamp, which enables organizations to seamlessly connect users and sites to the cloud, including infrastructure services (IaaS) and SaaS applications, while providing a highly optimized user-experience. Cloud onRamp is part of Viptela Fabric, a single platform that supports multiple use-cases including SD-WAN, Cloud Networking, Network-as-a-Service and AppUX.

"Viptela Cloud onRamp has transformed the user experience for our cloud-based services," said Pascal Heger, Global Network Architect for Agilent Technologies. "For example, Microsoft Office 365 response times have improved dramatically, especially at our international sites. We have fewer screen-freezes and a more responsive application experience. Viptela Cloud onRamp also enables a seamless migration to AWS."

Optimized IaaS and SaaS Clouds

Viptela Cloud onRamp addresses the primary challenges enterprises face in connecting to IaaS and SaaS providers while still ensuring security and an optimal user experience.

For IaaS applications, like AWS and Microsoft Azure, Cloud onRamp extends the Viptela Fabric from enterprise sites to these services by automatically instantiating virtual instances of its vEdge router inside the customer’s cloud. These instances automatically transform the cloud into an extension of the enterprise branch (as opposed to an extension of the data-center) to optimize the user-experience. Cloud onRamp can segment public cloud workloads through policies that enable the creation of multiple VPNs on top of a single fabric. The entire infrastructure is centrally managed for connectivity, security, policy and access control.

For SaaS applications, like Microsoft Office 365 and Salesforce.com, Cloud onRamp uses vEdge routers in branches, regional colocation facilities or data centers to monitor performance and availability, and dynamically determine the best Internet path to the SaaS application. These cloud Gateways provide both network and application optimization in real-time based on changing network conditions.

"Microsoft Azure is playing a foundational role in our cloud strategy," said John Shaffer CIO, Greenhill & Co. "Since we have deployed Viptela on a global basis at our physical locations, the value of extending Viptela Fabric directly into the Azure cloud for direct VNET connectivity is transformational."

Cloud Transformation Benefits
To enable enterprises to seamlessly migrate to public cloud IaaS and SaaS applications, Cloud onRamp provides the following comprehensive set of benefits:

  • Direct branch to cloud connectivity at enterprise scale across multiple regions and providers
  • Extends all Viptela Fabric capabilities, including application visibility and steering, transport resilience and security to laaS/PaaS instances
  • Establishes a single point of control for policy management and configuration across branch and cloud environments
  • Improves SaaS application experience for enterprise branch users
  • Improves visibility into SaaS application performance across all branches based on network characteristics
  • Guarantees resilient access to SaaS applications by implementing multiple DMZs/Internet Gateways

"Traditional WANs were not designed for the cloud, and as such pose major challenges in terms of complexity and user experience for enterprises that are aggressively adopting SaaS applications and public cloud infrastructures," said Praveen Akkiraju, CEO for Viptela. "Viptela Cloud onRamp connects users in the branch to applications in the cloud in a seamless, secure and reliable fashion, while delivering an on-premise level user experience."
