Cloud Architects

Cloud architects compile enterprise requirements and then determine the right set of technologies and software to build a cloud service, whether public, private or a public/private hybrid. They determine how to deliver the cloud services someone needs from virtual desktops to virtual servers.

Cloud Application Developers/Engineers

Cloud developers/engineers design apps that can be distributed via the cloud and integrated with cloud services. These are the people who build the software and service infrastructures on which the cloud runs. This job category requires at least a bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering. Programming expertise, knowledge of RTL techniques, SOA and software models are all essential.

Network and Computer Systems Administrators

Network system administrators support the hardware of the cloud infrastructure, whether they are setting up wireless routers throughout the building to allow mobile devices to connect to the cloud or switching out blades in the server. Computer systems administrators maintain the virtual system, performing tasks like allocating bandwidth and memory, setting up user accounts and performing backups. Bachelor’s degrees are considered a minimum by many employers, though someone with an associate’s degree and Cisco certifications may be able to walk into the job.

Cloud User Support Specialists

Cloud user support specialists handle the lower level issues that are not worth the system administrator’s time. They may help users being unable to log into their account, resolve problems with cloud based software or check in files the user cannot. They can run reports for customers, set up application level accounts approved by the system admin and allocate resources based on rules set by the system architect.

Big Data Experts

Big data refers to the massive volume of data being collected. Big data experts are the ones who understand a host of data mining tools and reporting methods to pull useful information from these masses of data and present concise answers to those asking questions.

Information Security Analysts

Information security analysts are crucial for protecting data on the cloud from unauthorized access, unauthorized changes and accidental data leaks. They may monitor the system in real time, deploy intrusion detection software and tools that prevent employees from copying data to external drives, or maintain necessary safeguards to meet ISO IT security standards.

Data Entry Personnel

Many businesses moving their data storage to the cloud are relying on an army of workers to manually input information from scanned paper records or written forms. These data entry jobs range from full time staff reviewing scanned files to crowd-sourced workers clicking check boxes based on fields filled out in a document.

More advanced data entry work involves data quality, reviewing the entered information for accuracy and completeness or removing special characters that arise from incorrect data imports. One example of this is when you look at a business’ name in the online phone book and see Joe"&s Pizza instead of Joe’s Pizza. Data entry jobs may entail manually entering these values initially or correcting the information that is already in the database. These positions often allow you to work from home.
