Progress today announced the release of Progress DataDirect Hybrid Data Pipeline, a data access service that provides simple, secure access to organizations’ cloud and on-premises data sources for hybrid cloud applications, such as CRM, data management platforms or hosted analytics.

According to Gartner, “In 2017, forward-thinking IT organizations will realize that rigid data architectures will not scale to meet the needs of a competitive, growing digital business. Technical professionals must utilize the lower-cost, flexible, componentized data management and analytics platforms that are emerging to enable their enterprises to be successful into the digital business era.”

Progress DataDirect Hybrid Data Pipeline represents the first vendor-agnostic hybrid connector that provides secure firewall-friendly access to back-office data from any cloud, independent of vendor or technology. It enables developers to integrate applications and data quickly, no matter where that data lives—on-site, in the cloud or both.

“More and more data is being created and stored outside of the enterprise, but integration challenges are magnified by this new hybrid world—a world where some resources are within a firewall and others are outside the firewall,” said Dion Picco, General Manager, Data Connectivity & Integration, Progress. “The Progress DataDirect Hybrid Data Pipeline provides apps with fast, scalable and secure connectivity to a wide array of on-premises and cloud data, through a universal API.”

Hybrid Connectivity—Access to Data Behind the Firewall
Progress DataDirect Hybrid Data Pipeline delivers firewall-friendly connectivity to relational databases such as SQL Server and Oracle, or big data platforms such as Hadoop, in real-time, without having to replicate that data to a cloud.

Keep Up with the Exploding APIs
In addition, Progress DataDirect Hybrid Data Pipeline exposes a wide range of data sources with a single, standard interface (REST or SQL), and supports standards-based APIs—ODBC, JDBC and OData. Based on industry standards, the solution enables users to access the latest data sources and APIs as advances are released, without developing custom code for each source with varying rules for authentication, query, metadata and qualities of service.
