Atlantis Computing today launched the integration of workspace infrastructure into Citrix Director, Studio and Lifecycle Manager. By combining applications, management and infrastructure into a single workspace platform-as-a-service (PaaS) solution, Atlantis says they will make it easier for any-sized enterprise to deploy and manage virtual workspaces at a lower cost.

Based on similarities between workspace management and the container space, Atlantis also announced a new partnership with Rancher Labs to marry Atlantis management of storage and compute with Rancher orchestration of containers.

The convenience of containers for rapid creation of web applications and microservices are offset by the need for storage that lasts beyond the typical container lifespan. Persistent storage and data management tools are critical for enterprise applications. Atlantis is addressing this with plans to extend its unified software-defined storage platform to deploy and manage containerized applications and microservices together with enterprise-class data services for any on-premises or cloud-based environment.

“Businesses require software-driven infrastructure that automatically tailors itself to the application to compete and thrive,” said Chetan Venkatesh, CEO and president of Atlantis. “The workspace today is too much of a jigsaw puzzle of multiple tools and processes in separate IT silos. By folding Atlantis into the Citrix platform and delivering a vision for workspace PaaS, we’re simplifying adoption of virtual desktops and providing cloud-based deployment management and operations that behaves more like a Docker container than a virtual machine.”

Atlantis says it will improve the end-user experience with new workspace capabilities including single-pane management that provides automated, dynamic workspace provisioning, monitoring and analytics-based reporting. Customers can extend workspace management to public clouds with integration of Microsoft Azure. They also have the flexibility of deploying the new workspace infrastructure platform in either Atlantis USX SDS or HyperScale appliance configurations to match their business requirements.

“Midsized and large enterprises often have complex infrastructure deployments that can be challenging to protect and manage from end-to-end,” said Calvin Hsu, vice president of product marketing, workspace services at Citrix. “The integration that Atlantis has done with Citrix provides on-demand delivery of virtual workspaces that will be easy to adopt and deploy anywhere, even in public clouds.”

The new Atlantis workspace solutions integrated with Citrix Desktop Director will be available worldwide from Atlantis resellers in November 2016, with support for Citrix Lifecycle Manager and Studio available in later releases.

Atlantis is also offering a preview of workspace and container management in a new Atlantis USX Community Edition from the Atlantis Community site.
