Today’s businesses are more dependent on technology than ever. We rely on it for our daily tasks, operations and communications, which means having a disaster recovery (DR) plan is paramount in keeping businesses running smoothly in the face of emergency. Most businesses, if they’re lucky, never have to worry about implementing their DR plan. That doesn’t mean, however, that a DR plan is something that should be created and then never be looked at again.

If someone asked you to show them proof of a reliable and secure DR plan, would you be able to do so?

For over 10 years, I’ve worked with DR clients at Bluelock and, over and over again, I’ve seen cases in which organizations need to prove – with tangible evidence – that their DR plan would and can lead to successful recovery. Whether you need to show proof to your internal team, or are required to demonstrate your plan to constituents like investors, regulators, auditors, customers, insurers or board members, it’s imperative that you have realistic and accurate insight of your own organization’s risk level.

Every day at Bluelock, we work with companies to help them update their recovery strategies and ensure the plan they have in place will successfully mitigate their unique risks. In order to help you and your organization better understand your own technology risks, I’m going to dissect several examples from our own client pool that show how to prove the effectiveness of a DR plan.

Whether you’re an executive, a technology practitioner or a constituent asking for proof, my goal is that these examples will help inform your dialogue around DR. In order to be productive, proactive and successful with DR, we all must work together to use technology to our protective advantage.
