Today at OpenStack Day UK, OpenStack Foundation Executive Director Jonathan Bryce offered a sneak preview of speakers committed to the next OpenStack Summit, the must-attend cloud computing event, taking place October 25-28 at the Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona (CCIB) in Barcelona, Spain. Approximately 6,000 attendees from 50+ countries are expected to attend the Summit to discuss how the OpenStack open source cloud platform is helping companies increase agility and save money as software becomes more strategic to their business.

Featured speakers include OpenStack users and community members at Banco Santander, CERN, China Mobile, Comcast, Constant Contact, Crowdstar, Deutsche Telekom, Folksam, Google, Mesosphere, Sky UK, Snapdeal, Swisscom, Telefonica, United States Army, Verizon, Walmart and many more. From 2015 to 2016, OpenStack vendor revenue in Europe grew 48 percent to US$478 million, and it is projected to grow more than 200 percent to US$1.5 billion, according to the 451 Research MarketMonitor from August 2016.

OpenStack is widely recognized as the open source private cloud software of choice globally, with adoption by 50 percent of the US Fortune 100. The Barcelona Summit, however, will focus on the explosive growth of public cloud service providers in EMEA, as well as adoption by global telecoms as an enabling technology for Network Functions Virtualization (NFV). Attendees will learn about the latest OpenStack release, Newton (scheduled for release on October 6), directly from the contributors who built it, as well as what’s on the product roadmap for the next 18 months. The Summit will also feature technology demonstrations, including:

  • OpenStack multi-vendor interoperability challenge, showcasing common applications deployed across multiple OpenStack private and public cloud environments
  • Demo of features from Newton, the newest version of OpenStack
  • NFV fault management demonstration using OpenStack Vitrage and Congress, based on the OPNFV Doctor framework
  • OpenStack and AWS hybrid cloud management
  • NFV interoperability demo based on OpenStack run by the European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC) on behalf of The New IP Agency (NIA)

The international event spotlights enterprise IT strategies, cloud application development, emerging NFV architectures in the telecom ecosystem, and exciting new projects and technologies within the OpenStack community. Developer working sessions will determine the roadmap for Ocata, the 15th release of OpenStack software, expected in February 2017.

Presentations will cover topics including:

  • ROI case studies
  • Multi-cloud strategy
  • Next-generation telecom networks
  • Managing containers on bare metal or in virtual machines
  • Cloud reference architectures proven in production
  • Enabling application developers
