Microsoft ties up with rival Red Hat for cloud computing

Long-time rivals Microsoft and Red Hat have tied up to, in their own words, “lend a helping hand to customers in taking up hybrid cloud computing by deploying Red Hat solutions on Microsoft Azure”.  As part of the recently announced agreement, Microsoft will offer Red Hat’s Linux OS as the preferred choice for enterprise Linux workloads on Microsoft Azure.
 
In a media statement, the Redmond-based software major Microsoft said it is working with Raleigh-based open source software proponent Red Hat to build, deploy and manage applications across private and public clouds…

 
For a long time, Microsoft has kept secret the codes behind its application-based software while Red Hat’s Linux has been an open source-code pioneer, offering customers with the freely customisable and distributable source codes to its Linux OS…
