Why BMC Software is betting big on the cloud

BMC Software Inc. has had several executive hires over the past few months, but one might help determine its success in a major area of focus for the Houston-based tech company. Phil Harris, a former Cisco executive, was appointed to senior vice president and CTO in January. He’s an expert in cloud computing, having been a part of Cisco’s team, as well as government and industry consulting.
He sees cloud as a key piece to the IT puzzle for BMC’s enterprise customers in the future. "We’re going to see (cloud computing) hockey stick over the next couple of years," Harris told the HBJ. Cloud, in combination with the Internet of Things and consumer IT, will form a new environment for technology in the workplace, he said…
By finding ways to mix the three together, companies can use a variety of different devices including sensors, tablets, smartphones and computers to create a complex network that ultimately would make day-to-day functions more efficient…
