Hitachi Data Systems Unveils Next Gen Storage

Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) today introduced a new platform that Hitachi says provides organizations with more intelligent, scalable storage and also prepares them for the next-generation data centers leveraging virtualization and cloud computing. HDS unveiled a new upgrade to its management software that, among other things, can manage more volume of objects and capacity via one management server and offers visibility and correlation of applications, virtual machines and servers and logical storage devices for traditional and virtualized VMware and Microsoft Hyper V environments.

What was the original idea behind Cirtas?
Cirtas' co-founders previously built a WAN optimization company that was acquired by Citrix.  Together, they saw the coming of the cloud and recognized that broad scale adoption of cloud storage would require a "catalyst" technology to make the experience seamless and high performing.  They had the expertise to develop such technology and founded Cirtas to address the market need...

According to Miki Sandorfi, chief cloud strategist at Hitachi Data Systems (HDS), an important attraction of cloud computing is the idea of delivering IT on a just-in-time, pay-per-use basis. This allows the alignment of IT resources with business needs.

As a storage company, HDS naturally sees enterprise data storage as a core aspect of virtualisation and of cloud more generally. But perhaps unlike some of its competitors, the company thinks storage should be deployed or a pay-per-use basis where appropriate.
