Grazed from SkyKick

SkyKick (www.skykick.com), a global provider of cloud management software for information technology (IT) solution partners, today announced that SkyKick Cloud Backup and SkyKick Migration Suites are now compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework. The certifications, which come at no additional cost to existing SkyKick products, provide additional assurance that sensitive customer data is being handled securely around the globe.

"We take data security and privacy very seriously, and our products have always been in line with important regulations. However, the HIPAA and Privacy Shield certifications eliminate the overhead of outside compliance management and provides our partners significant peace of mind," said Brad Younge, SkyKick co-founder and CTO. "The number of SkyKick IT partners managing cloud deployments in healthcare and in Europe has grown tremendously over the past year, and we're working hard to make it even easier for them to handle sensitive data."

Linux Academy Launches Cloud Assessments Platform to Test and Train Hands-On Technology Skills

Grazed from Linux Academy

Linux Academy, the foremost online Linux and cloud training platform and community, today launched the public beta of Cloud Assessments, a new platform that allows enterprises to test and train their IT teams, as well as prospective job candidates, on their technology. Individuals can also leverage Cloud Assessments to prove real, hands-on skill and earn micro certifications. The first Cloud Assessment offerings will focus on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

"In today's world of constantly changing technologies and competition for IT talent, it's necessary for companies to know for certain that their IT staff and new hires have more than a theoretical understanding of their technology, particularly AWS," said Anthony James, CEO and founder, Linux Academy. "Whether it's used by companies to test, vet, or train their teams on AWS skills or by individuals to assess and learn new ones, Cloud Assessments provides proof of those skills, and we're very excited about the tremendous advantages and opportunities it presents to both."

Mirantis Launches First Vendor-Agnostic Kubernetes and Docker Certification

Grazed from Mirantis

Mirantis launched the first vendor-agnostic Kubernetes and Docker certification, giving enterprises a way to identify container skills in a competitive cloud market. Professionals preparing for the certification are recommended to take the Kubernetes and Docker bootcamp. The company also announced a new online, self-paced KD100 training for self-learners looking for economy pricing and additional flexibility.

Cloud computing skills have progressed from being niche to mainstream as the world's most in-demand skill set. LinkedIn named cloud computing as the hottest skill in demand in France, India, and the United States in 2015. Within cloud computing, Kubernetes and containers have grown in popularity. The OpenStack User Survey shows Kubernetes taking the lead as the top Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) tool, while 451 Research has called containers the "future of virtualization," predicting strong container growth across on-premises, hosted and public clouds.

An Introduction to OpenStack and OpenStack Certification

Grazed from GoCertify. Author: Tim Warner.

It's difficult to browse information technology (IT) industry news without seeing reference after reference to OpenStack. The buzz is that OpenStack is a free, fully open platform for building private clouds. What is OpenStack? How does it work? What OpenStack certifications may be available?

Understanding OpenStack

OpenStack is indeed free and open-source software (FOSS) written predominantly in Python; this means that you can inspect the source code and even make contributions if you're so inclined. Specifically, OpenStack is a cloud operating system that supports infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), primarily virtual machine, workloads. Hallmarks of cloud computing solutions are as follows:...

From PC Break/Fix to CloudMASTER

Grazed from SysCon. Author: Kevin Jackson.

It was late 2011 and Steven Donovan was comfortable working at SHI International Corporation, a growing information technology firm, as a personal computer break/fix technician. His company had been growing quickly from a $1 million "software-only" regional re-seller into eventually becoming a $6 billion global provider of information technology products and services.

At that time, cloud computing was just starting to explode onto the information technology scene. Although Amazon Web Services had been offering its Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) since 2006, browser-based enterprise applications from companies like Google had only been around since 2009. Steven wanted to somehow elevate himself professionally so after hearing good things about the New Jersey Institutes CloudMASTER® certification he enrolled. After a short, but intense, online curriculum Steven earned NJIT CloudMASTER® Certificate 11002...

Cloud Computing: Five Core Skills Every IT Professional Should Have

Grazed from GoCertify. Author: Tim Warner.

Information technology has never moved faster. With the widespread adoption of virtualization, cloud computing, and the DevOps methodology, it's far too easy to let technical skills get old. If that happens, then you're on your way to making yourself obsolete in today's job market.

Today I'll share with you five core skills that I feel any IT professional needs to have in his or her proverbial toolbelt. I’m using the term "IT professional” to embrace anyone whose full-time job role exists within the realm of information technology. Here are some representative titles:...

Cloud Foundry Launches Cross-Vendor Cloud Service Certification

Grazed from InformationWeek. Author: Charles Babbcock.

Cloud Foundry, the open source project for application developers, says modern apps can be developed on its platform to run in multiple clouds. Furthermore, it will certify which cloud products and services are guaranteed to work with applications produced on Cloud Foundry. Cloud Foundry Certified is a kind of a Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval that says: Develop on Cloud Foundry and your application will work with the following tools and cloud environments. One publication, the UK's The Register, even called it the "good cloud-keeping seal of approval."

The program is starting off with a list of seven cloud suppliers. Amazon isn't on the list, but other partners include IBM Bluemix, HP Enterprise Helion on-premises cloud, CenturyLink's AppFog development platform (based on Cloud Foundry open source), SAP HANA Cloud Platform, and Chinese giant Huawei's FusionStage...

Cloud Computing: Google Drive Gains Security Upgrades, Certifications

Grazed from eWeek. Author: Jaikumar Vijayan.

With the number of paying organizations using Google Drive crossing the one million mark earlier this year, Google appears to be ramping up its efforts to bolster the cloud storage service's security features. The cloud services giant introduced new features on Sept. 21 that are intended to give organizations more visibility and control over business files stored and shared by workers in Google Drive.

The new features add retention and legal hold capabilities to the existing collection of e-discovery capabilities available with Google Drive. The new functions are similar to those available from Google for email and chat, and they’re designed to help businesses fulfill their legal obligations pertaining to data archiving and removal...

New Cloud Security Certification In A Maturing Industry

Grazed from CloudTweaks. Author: Editorial Staff.

Cloud security certification is getting a new dimension. At the RSA conference earlier this month the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) and (ISC)² announced a new cloud security certification: Certified Cloud Security Professional, or CCSP for short. (ISC)² is most famous for its flagship certification: Certified Information Systems Security Professional or CISSP. More than 100,000 professionals maintain this certification and it is widely recognized. The Cloud Security Alliance pioneered the cloud security field a few years ago, and runs the CCSK (Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge) programme. The CCSP body of knowledge covers 6 domains:

  • Architectural Concepts and Design Requirements
  • Cloud Data Security
  • Cloud Platform and Infrastructure Security
  • Cloud Application Security
  • Operations
  • Legal and Compliance...
