There has been much discussion over the past year or two as to just how committed Google is to executing upon its chance to be one of the big cloud infrastructure vendors. Sure they have the technical know-how and scale, but do they have all the cultural and organizational components that are required to deliver a real enterprise business?

Increasingly the answer to that question is yes, Google understands that it needs to develop an ecosystem, embrace partnership, reach out to press and analysts and talk about its road-map in order to build faith within large businesses. An announcement from Google today speaks to their focus around cloud. While many suggest that Google’s focus is purely on being a broad horizontal vendor, and that they have no desire to move into specific verticals, the company’s acquisition of Zync Render questions that view. Zync Render is a service that helps film studios render their visual effects in the cloud. It is a similar service to that offered by GreenButton, a company recently acquired by Microsoft.
