For once, growing clouds aren’t a sign of gloomy days ahead. At least not for Connectria Hosting, which currently provides cloud computing, managed hosting, and custom hosting solutions to more than 1,000 customers in more than 30 countries worldwide.

IT Jungle recently reported on Connectria’s plans to host public and private IBM i clouds. Now comes news of the addition of a fourth data center at Connectria to accommodate growing demand.

The new data center will be located in a CyrusOne facility in Lewisville, Texas. The data center is a Tier 4 designated facility, which is the highest level a data center can achieve, according to standards set forth by the Telecommunications Infrastructure Standards for Data Centers. The data center will be capable of hosting mission critical computer systems, telecommunications gear, and storage environments with fully redundant subsystems, and compartmentalized security zones, monitored by biometric access control methods…

The Texas location is currently projected to be operational in the third quarter of this year. Initial plans for the new location are to deliver Connectria’s expanding cloud computing solutions, and to provide additional disaster recovery options to its clients. Later in 2012, Connectria expects the Texas facility to accommodate the full range of Connectria’s services.

The Texas facility will also provide improved connectivity and proximity for international markets, including South America, which has been a rapid growth market for the hosting company. Connectria currently has two data centers in St. Louis and on in Philadelphia.

And it looks like Connectria will need the room. Following the recent IBM i Cloud announcement, the company unveiled the availability of its IBM AIX Cloud. An IBM AIX Cloud with managed services starts at around $1,245 per month, and can scale from one-tenth of a 3 GHz core on up. Customers will be able to purchase IBM AIX Cloud capacity and support as needed.

"We realize that cloud computing is not limited to Windows and Linux alone," said Connectria president and CEO, Rich Waidman. "Connectria’s commitment to provide reliable cloud hosting solutions for a wide range of customers and environments, including IBM i, IBM AIX, and Oracle/Sun Solaris sets us apart from the crowd."

When asked about the status of the IBM i Cloud, Scott Azzolina, vice president of marketing, confirmed Connectria has already lined up its first IBM i customer.
