Grazed from Nutanix

Nutanix, a leader in enterprise cloud computing, announced today that the Chicago Bears have deployed the Nutanix Enterprise Cloud for their mission-critical applications, including Microsoft SQL Server databases, financial reporting software, and an internally-developed player scouting application. The Nutanix solution has simplified system management and improved performance, enabling the Bears IT staff to reduce time spent on deploying and managing infrastructure and improve coaches and players' training and preparation experiences.

The switch to Nutanix was a result of an assessment, which determined that the Bears' 3-tier infrastructure was over-allocated. As a result the team decided to deploy a hyperconverged solution for its Microsoft SQL Server databases, financial reporting software, and player scouting application.

Improvements enabled by the Chicago Bears' use of the Nutanix solution include:

Tintri Raises the Bar for Enterprise Cloud Built on Web Services Architecture and RESTful APIs

Grazed from Tintri

Tintri Inc., today announced a new release of its Tintri Operating System and expanded orchestration and automation capabilities. These products simplify deployment and management of enterprise cloud for organizations and service providers. Tintri's web-services architecture offers Amazon-like agility and scale with the security and control of an enterprise cloud platform.

IT budgets continue to be redistributed from traditional IT infrastructure to the cloud. A recent IDC survey of 11,350 IT executives revealed that while three-year spend on public cloud is projected to grow 29.5 percent, the investment in private cloud (on-premise and hosted off-premise) will increase 51.5 percent. In the same timeframe, the budget for traditional IT is forecasted to fall 18.8 percent.

"More than one third of Tintri customers have built cloud infrastructures with Tintri. They trust Tintri to provide an agile application development environment for DevOps and/or a highly scalable and automated infrastructure for their mission critical applications," said Ken Klein, CEO and chairman of Tintri. "That's because only Tintri makes it possible for an organization to easily deploy and then tear down thousands of virtual machines in minutes, and for a cloud service provider to guarantee performance to their customers by isolating individual virtual machines and setting per-VM Quality of Service (QoS)."

VMware Delivers on Enterprise Class Cloud Promise

Most IT organizations are going to approach hybrid cloud computing from the perspective of their data centers out. After all, they've already made substantial investments in existing IT systems. With that idea in mind VMware (VMW) today extended the scope of the VMware vCloud Air initiative by adding new disaster recovery capabilities, the ability to support hundreds of virtual network connections, and announced the general availability of the VCloud Air Virtual Private Cloud OnDemand service.

Scott Collison, vice president for the hybrid platform at VMware, said that while public clouds have been widely used to test and deploy stand-alone applications, it's clear that the move to hybrid clouds is being driven by a desire to extend the reach of existing IT environments into the cloud. Given those requirements, most enterprise IT organizations are looking for the cloud service that most seamlessly provides those extensions...

Cloud security should be an enterprise priority in 2015

Grazed from DataPipe.  Author:  David Lucky.

With 2015 all but arrived, it's natural for technology experts to offer their predictions for the new year. Oftentimes, these take the form of optimistic forecasts of the new advancements on the horizon. However, sometimes industry professionals acknowledge that the coming months will have their fair share of challenges.

The realm of cloud computing security is a case in point. Writing for InfoWorld, David Linthicum recently highlighted three cloud computing predictions that he would like to see come to fruition in 2015 but which are not likely to reach this point. And the rise of cloud computing security mastery among enterprises was his leading pipe dream. In reality, these companies will continue to rely on managed security services to safely leverage cloud resources in the foreseeable future...

The need for open enterprise cloud

Modern IT operations depend on a strong underlying infrastructure, especially in enterprise environments where high capacity and performance are essential. An open enterprise cloud can enable organizations to meet these future IT needs, as the platform can be tailored to meet the exact requirements of an organization - regardless of size...

Deploying an enterprise cloud with HP

Grazed from ITProPortal. Author: Antony Savvas.

Many enterprises mix-and-match multiple clouds depending on their needs, and that is where cloud deployments can get complicated. The developing cloud market is seeing organisations increasingly working with a blend of different cloud infrastructures, whether that be private, public or a mixture of the two by using hybrid clouds.

With these options having to be matched with a variety of cloud services, such as infrastructure-as-a-service, platform-as-a-service and well established software-as-a-service offerings, organisations need the right kind of cloud deployment support. Businesses deploying a blend of clouds to handle different types of application workloads means cloud management platforms must include a policy-based governance engine to make sure the right workload is matched to exactly the right cloud service...
