Microsoft Surface Windows 10 Cloud Laptop Update: Low Spec Solution Targets Google Chromebook

Grazed from DroidReport. Author: Joseph Patrick.

Microsoft is all set for its upcoming event on May 2, something that could include a Microsoft Surface Windows 10 Cloud laptop. With the focus on software expected, possibly stealing the spotlight is the anticipated mobile solution that could take aim at Google and its Chromebook. The upcoming event was originally pegged to focus on the software and the Microsoft’s efforts to entice people to try out their Windows 10 Cloud.

With the introduction of this cloud computing solution, the end result is the eventual shift to lower cost technology, albeit calling out what Google has done with the Chromebook clan, Forbes reported. The anticipated Microsoft Surface Windows 10 Cloud laptop would thus be something new and not a burden to the budget-centric buyer. Only a handful of updates headlined by the shift to an Intel Kaby Lake chipset could make sense...

Grazed from FierceWireless. Author: Monica Alleven.

Intel is collaborating with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) on a $4.125 million research program designed to increase their understanding of visual cloud capabilities given that the Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G are going to be driving a whole lot more video experiences in the future.

Visual data is probably the single largest form of data in terms of the amount of bits allocated, and over half of all the mobile data in the world is visual data, mostly video but some images and audio. New types of experiences, such as augmented reality, virtual reality and panoramic video require new capabilities in terms of system architectures and data processing techniques...

Cloudify Releases 4th Iteration of Orchestration-First Cloud Management Platform

Grazed from Cloudify

The latest version of Cloudify open source multi-cloud management software-Cloudify 4-ships today, with new features that present a direct threat to legacy cloud management platforms (CMPs) used by enterprises since the earliest days of cloud. These legacy CMPs-such as RightScale and CloudForms-are showing their age now that orchestration-first approaches like Cloudify have matured, adding CMP features and enhanced performance in the latest version. Cloudify 4 is available for download here.

Orchestration-First CMP

CMPs were built to satisfy central IT demands for control, and PaaS platforms were built to satisfy casual developer demands for ease of use. Orchestration platforms, by contrast, were built to satisfy power user demands for advanced automation and lifecycle management.

Cloudify 4 takes an "orchestration first" approach to cloud management, bringing the key capabilities of all three approaches into one platform. The new version expands the number of potential users to include not just power users, but developers who prefer PaaS-like features such as a simple, one-click portal and integration with CI/CD processes.

Cloud computing continues to grow at a steady pace across Europe. IDC predicts that the EMEA public cloud market will expand 26% over the next four years. Hybrid cloud is driving public cloud adoption and is the catalyst for much of European enterprises’ digital transformation. In fact, a CIO Research survey showed that over half of CIOs and IT managers in France, Germany and the UK identified hybrid cloud as the most common cloud adoption model.

What we have seen from customers in our 62 Equinix data centers across EMEA, and heard at conferences such as this year’s Cloud Computing Expo in Paris, is that the enterprise cloud ecosystem grows along with a CIO’s trust! The following factors are influencing greater “cloud confidence” and adoption in the region, specifically at the digital edge where there are higher concentrations of users, applications, data and clouds:...

Key Benefits of the Cloud in Healthcare

The healthcare industry is among the fastest when it comes to implementing cloud computing across the board. A few years ago, big industry players were still focusing on medical imaging and the implementation of electronic health records of EHRs. Today, however, a lot of big hospitals and medical institutions are fully utilizing the cloud to their advantage.

Speaking of advantages, there are a number of key benefits offered by the implementation of cloud in healthcare. These benefits are not just helping healthcare service providers operate better, but benefiting patients as well. Here are the key benefits of the cloud in healthcare.

Faster and More Accurate Treatments

Doctors, physicians, and nurses - healthcare providers in general - rely on information to provide patients with accurate and effective treatments. The information they needed was stored in the form of printed documents and offline digital archives. Before doctors could gain access to a patient's complete medical records, they needed to jump through hoops to get them.
